Hi I'm Alistair

I'm an avid reader and film watcher, Batman is my hero, I'm currently a missionary in England, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in Boston, Massachusetts but was raised in Idaho. There is not much there aside from fields and wilderness, and perhaps that's why I absolutley love to read, all kinds of books. I also love to watch films, most especially exciting action films that also have an intriguing plot. I enjoy playing the piano, not professionally but just for fun and the ability it gives me to relieve stress. Pounding things out on the ivories helps me stay sane. I want to become a doctor (perhaps a brain or heart surgeon) and am in the process of studying for that. I find how the human body works fascinating and I can't get enough of it. Right now, I'm living in England for two years to serve others as a missionary.

Why I am a Mormon

As with so many others, I have been a member of this church my entire life, but it is only as I've aged and more specifically come to England to serve that I have really understood why I do the things I do. It is so hard to live as Christ would have us live, so some would ask, "Why bother?" To answer that question, as I 'bother' I feel a peace and an assurance that anchors me to a solid bedrock. I feel something greater than myself that helps daily life matter. I do what I do because without it, my life would be meaningless. True joy, happiness, and reason come into my life because of a knowledge of the truth; knowing who I am, where I came from, and what my destination is gives me a context to understand my purpose. My life's not a fairy tale, but I'm happy, and that is because of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

How I live my faith

For me, being a member of this church isn't about shouting it in people's faces or ramming it down their throats. I live my faith in small, simple ways. I try to follow the example that my Savior, Jesus Christ, set for me thousands of years ago. He shows us how to reach out to others beyond our comfort zone. That is something I have done before but need to do more frequently. I've had a few experiences that have taught me the blessings of reaching out. While at university I volunteered at a local school to help with an after-school homework club and I found that fantastic. Although it only took a little time and effort, I found it incredibly fulfilling to assist others. As we focus out instead of in miracles occur. Not astounding mystical miracles, but everyday, positive events. And those everyday positive events I believe come from my decision to live like Jesus Christ.
