Hi I'm Taetem

I'm an Idaho girl. I can never follow a recipe without changing it. I study computers, and love cartoons. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm serving a right now in the Irvine California Mission, and it's been the best and hardest experience of my life, as well as the most life-changing. Before that, I programmed computers at school. With logic, hard work and perseverance, you can make almost anything. Someday I'd like to create something, preferably animated, that will influence the rising generation for good. Although I'm not a fabulous artist, I do love to see characters brought to life, and I know that a mix of technical and artistic skill can help me to do that. Outside of school, I'm probably what you might call eccentric. I'm a creative cook - and by that I mean that I tend to make a recipe my own, whether or not I really should. I try to eat healthy, as I've learned that diet and exercise help me not only physically, but also mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. I also sew, sculpt, write, and sing - I love music, and enjoy pretending to know how to play instruments. I love musicals and cartoons - I love their combination of music, art, and story. Most of all, I love life! I try to encourage happiness in myself and others - and I'm happy when I create things that make others smile. I think that the best gifts in life are those that come from the heart. I also know that we should never become discouraged because of weaknesses - God will make them strengths. He's done that for me in my own struggles with mental and emotional health - blessing me with His love, and supportive friends and leaders.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? It's pretty simple, and yet, it really means everything. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has changed my life more than anything else ever could. I am a completely different person than I ever expected to be. I've been through difficult times in my life - hasn't everyone? But in every instance, God has always reached out and helped me rise above the darkness. Our Father in Heaven does hear and answer prayers - he knows each one of us personally, and loves us more than any earthly father could. I can't say I've ever had specific answers that this or that is true - I haven't heard a voice or had an angel come down and tell me that the Book of Mormon is true, that Joseph Smith is a prophet, or even that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the true church. But what I have had is peace, comfort, and direction. Things just feel right when I read the Book of Mormon or take the sacrament. The chaos and uncertainty I feel is replaced by an understanding that even though I don't know everything, it will all work out. And I take that as my answer. I can't deny it. The Book of Mormon has helped me come closer to Christ than any other book - it helps me to know who Christ is, not just what he did. And because of what I've learned through the Book of Mormon, I know that Jesus Christ is my savior, that he died for me, that he's been through every struggle I've had in this life, and that he rose from the dead. He overcame all, and because of Him, so can I.

How I live my faith

I'm currently serving an 18 month mission in California. In doing so, I've grown to see God's love for each of His children - and I know that He is involved in the details of our lives. Before serving, I volunteered in the Missionary Training Center - where I saw that missionaries were gifted with the ability to provide help for me in ways I never imagined. I am striving to share the light and happiness that has permeated my life - I want others to know about the happiness I've found and the love I've felt because of Christ, and to help them recognize his loving hand in the world. I believe that this world can be a loving, happy place, and that it starts with each of us, and then grows beyond our small efforts. I also love to visit the temple and other spiritual sites, because of the peace and happiness I feel there. I love serving others in my community through giving gifts from the heart - baking, creating something fun, or just spending time with people. And I always find myself happier when I do it. I love to sing in any choir - school, church, or otherwise - music is such a beautiful way to feel the influence of God in the world, and blending my voice with others is one of my favorite ways to share my testimony.

Why was a Restoration of the Gospel needed? Haven’t we always had the Bible?

Taetem
After the apostles were killed, the authority for using God's power was lost - the apostles held the 'keys' to this power, given them by Christ, and when they were killed, these keys were lost. Over many years, even precious truths in the Bible were taken out or changed to suit the ideas of men, some well-meaning, others not so much. In order to bring back that which was lost, a Restoration was necessary. These religious fads resulted in much confusion, eventually causing a young boy - Joseph Smith - to ask the Lord what was true. The result of this question was the beginning of the Restoration of the gospel again on the earth. Show more Show less
