Hi I'm Spencer

I love to eat, work out and learn, but not necessarily in that order. Most important of all I'm a Mormon!

About Me

Well to start off I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints! I was born in Idaho but I really claim Oregon as my home since I spent most of my life there! I love sports and hanging out with my friends in my spare time but when I'm not outside, my inner nerd comes out and I'll party it up on the computer or X-Box 360. After Graduating High School I was blessed with the opportunity to go to BYU - Hawaii where I learned that I really love business and want to get my degree in that field! After 9 months I took a leave from college and am now serving a 2 year mission in North Carolina!

Why I am a Mormon

My Dad in his teenage years converted to the church and after his mission got married to my Mother. Because of those missionaries that found his family and taught them, I was blessed to be born into this Church. Don't assume though that being born into the church is the reason I'm still a member! There were many things in my life that tried to pull me away from my faith, as I'm sure others have experienced as well. I am a Mormon because I know without a doubt that this is truly Jesus Christ's church. It has the same organization as when Jesus Christ organized it, with prophets and apostles called from God through revelation, rather than their education or any other worldly accomplishments. Also I have the Book of Mormon as a personal witness to me that it is true. I've read and prayed about it and know without a shadow of a doubt that it is truly Gods word; and the Book of Mormon together with the Bible instruct us more fully on how to come to Christ and be perfected in Him!

How I live my faith

The word Christian in my vocabulary means wanting to be like Christ. And that is exactly how I live my faith. Rather than wear a cross around my neck or tattoo a scripture on my chest, I choose to show my faith in my everyday actions. I am definitely far from perfect but in every situation I find myself in, I do my best to act in a manner that He would.

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Each law that Heavenly Father gives us, we know is for our benefit. In the 1800's Heavenly Father gave the Prophet Joseph Smith what we call the Word of Wisdom which commands us to treat our bodies with care. He gives suggestions on things that we should eat and also makes known things that we do not take into our bodies. These things they suggest we stay away from are Tobacco, Alcohol, Coffee and Tea and any Illegal Drug. I may at times not always understand the reasoning behind His commandments but these bodies are a gift from God and I know that if I treat them the way he asks then I will not regret it later! What is the First Vision?

The First Vision refers to the time when the Prophet Joseph Smith first went to Heavenly Father in prayer. At that time he was not a Prophet but a 14 year old boy desiring to know which of all the churches at that time was the true church and which should he join? He originally decided to go to the Lord in prayer because of the scripture in James 1:5 that told him, "If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him". Lacking much wisdom he decided he would test this scripture and ask God who he knew wouldn't lie. In response to his prayer he recorded in his journal, "I saw a pillar of light, exactly over my head above the brightness of the sun which descended gradually until it fell upon me. When the light rested upon me I saw two Personages, whose brightness and glory defy all description, standing above me in the air. One of them spake unto me, calling me by name and said, pointing to the other—This is My Beloved Son. Hear Him!” In that vision Joseph was told to join none of the churches that existed at that time as the priesthood authority and Church as Jesus Christ had organized it when He was on the earth had been lost over the centuries. He was also told that that church would eventually be restored to the earth through him as their modern day prophet. Show more Show less
