Hi I'm Pat Holland

I grew up in Honolulu, Hawaii. I am a mother and grandmother. I am a Mormon.

About Me

I have traveled throughout the US and the world since 1972 accompanying my husband who is in the military but soon to retire. I am a mother of four sons and a daughter all of whom were born premature. I have been in the Cub Scout/Boy Scout program for a little more than 30 years working with boys and as a trainer. I enjoy crocheting, reading, quilting, and some gardening. I love to ride while my husband drives to different places that we can explore. Although I have three college degrees I opted to stay at home with my children and occasionally did volunteer work or substitute taught at their schools.

Why I am a Mormon

My father was converted when I was nearly two years old and he tells me that I was a child of faith. When I got sick I always asked for a blessing. Once when I was three my parents took me to the mission home because I was very sick and they had to carry me in. After the blessing I was running around the mission home as though I had never been ill. I have always remembered that story about my childhood because my dad asked me often if I still had that faith. With that I would think about my behavior and attitude and became more prayerful and more committed to being a faithful member. As a result I have come to know that the Spirit, the Holy Ghost, does teach us and help us to know the truth of the scriptures as we study them. Through my life I have been guided to the truth and have been comforted and received peace through the Spirit. The blessings of the temple assures me that there is a God and that he did send his Son Jesus Christ to the earth to be our Savior and Redeemer. I am a Mormon because the doctrines I learn help me know that I can return to live with God and that all my ancestors who have passed from this life will learn of Jesus Christ and his gospel and have the same opportunity to live with God again because of temple ordinances. The more I live the gospel as taught to me the more I come to know of it's truth, and the closer I feel to God.

How I live my faith

I volunteer in my community as a Scout leader for our church unit and also work at the district and council level on activities and training. I have taught mostly the youth between the ages of 6-8 and really enjoy this group. At this time I am the leader of our women's group in church. This is a calling where I have the opportunity to work with women one on one or as a group to facilitate the needs of all the women in our ward or unit. We plan, organize, and execute service projects either to a woman with an immediate need or to a community organization with many needs. We teach the women the things that help them to increase faith and personal righteousness, strengthen home and family through short lectures, discussion, and hands-on activities that teach skills and principles. These classes are open to all women, including those who are not members of our church.
