Hi I'm Adrian

I'm British, I'm a film historian, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a father of two boys, who share a love of reading, Lego and Pokemon. I have been married for sixteen years, and have been working in education for most of those. I started out as a media technician at a university, taught A levels for ten years, and am now lecturing at a couple of different universities. I have also been studying part-time for most of our marriage. Thankfully I have a very understanding wife. I am currently enrolled on a full-time PhD in Film Studies. I also write for some film magazines and have been involved in the release of old films on blu ray. I have always had a love of movies, something which I am doing my best to pass on to my children.

Why I am a Mormon

Although I grew up as a Mormon, this does not mean it was easy. Half of my family were not in the church, and I had a father whose idea of a good day out was for me to sit in a pub garden with a lemonade for several hours. My childhood home was not a happy one for the most part, although my mother did her best. When they divorced and both remarried things got better, and I'm very grateful to my mother for persevering with getting my sister and I to church all those years. When I went to university for the first time I was far away from home but made contact with local members of the church and found a wonderful community of students and families that made me feel welcome. I have always found that wherever you go in the world Mormons will make you feel at home, whatever language is being spoken. Going on a mission for the church was the real turning-point for me. I enjoyed going to church, and I believed it, but that helped me realise for the first time that it really was all true. I gained a love for The Book of Mormon, and although I did not baptise many people, I loved the opportunities I had to give service. I knew that the message of Jesus Christ that we were teaching was real, and that anyone who embraced it would have a happier life. I still believe that now. My life has not always been easy, and some challenges threatened to break me completely. Knowing that God was there, supporting me, enabled me to get through the darkest moments of my life. The gospel of Jesus Christ gives us all hope, and knowing that I can be with my family forever is better than anything.

How I live my faith

I have been a member of this church my whole life, and I am grateful to have been brought up knowing these standards and teachings. I have served a two-year full-time mission and worked in various voluntary roles within the church. Currently I am responsible for promoting the use of technology in our area, I help with missionary work and I also speak regularly from the pulpit. I am a strong believer in service, and really want to have opportunities to help others. This is not always easy when I have already managed to make myself incredibly busy. I think if we look outwards to the happiness of others we are more likely to be happy ourselves. This sounds good, and I want to try it more.
