Hi I'm Alison

I love musical theater and hiking. I'm studying Civil Engineering. My family means everything to me, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was born in southern California, moved around a lot when I was little, and ended up in northern Utah. I'm currently working on my bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, but I'm taking a break for the next eighteen months to serve as a missionary in Uruguay for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I love hiking, singing, reading, traveling, playing the piano or guitar, and just spending time being crazy with my friends and family.

Why I am a Mormon

I've been a Mormon all my life, but I've had to gain a knowledge of the truth for myself. For a long time, I thought I must be doing something wrong because I hadn't had some life-changing spiritual witness to tell me that what I was doing was right. Then I heard someone say that being raised in the church is a lot like a fish having lived his whole life underwater. He's not sure he really believes in water simply because he's never known anything else. Unfortunately for some, it takes time out of the "water" to realize what they've had all around them the whole time. That's when I knew. Sometimes a testimony comes in some miraculous way, but most of the time, that miracle comes little by little as we continually make the decision to follow Christ. Like a sturdy house, it is built brick by brick and is strengthened and enlarged throughout our lives as we continually strive to do our best in all that we do. I've seen the difference that this gospel makes in people's lives--I've FELT it. The light and the joy that it brings is unlike anything else, and there's a peace that comes with it that can't be found through any worldly means. The knowledge of God's great Plan for us and the assurance that families can be together forever helps me to know my purpose in life and to find answers to some of life's great questions--Who are we? Where did we come from? Why are we here? And where are we going? I know that I am a child of God with infinite worth, and that I can, and will, return to live with Him someday if I will but keep His commandments and follow the example that was set for us by His Beloved Son, Jesus Christ. I'm certainly far from perfect, but I'm doing my best, and that's all that He asks.

How I live my faith

I live my faith through the little things that I do each day. It doesn't take great life-changing acts to make a difference. For me, it's strengthening my relationship with my Father in Heaven a little bit more each day by turning to Him often in sincere prayer. It helps me to feel His love and protection throughout the day, and to see the blessings all around me that are heaven-sent. I attend church services every Sunday, and I'm working on making more time in my life to read from the scriptures as well. For the next eighteen months, I'll be living my faith full-time as I serve as a missionary and representative of Jesus Christ in South America, and I've never been more excited to do anything in my life. :)
