Hi I'm Sister Lizzi Barker

I'm from Cali, I have a huge family, I look for fun and adventure, I love serving the Lord in the IDMM. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently serving a mission in Iowa. I love to sing and I am very artistic. My family is my life, nearly everything revolves around them. We love going on vacations together especially camping. I have been going to a junior college to get started towards career goals but I have put that on hold so that I can serve a mission for the Lord. I have a very strong testimony of the church and I wish I could share that knowledge with everyone. I love people, talking to them and learning about them... it's just something that I am good at and I enjoy being with people. My favorite calling I have had in the church so far, is working with the primary children. What a rewarding experience to see them learn and grow and get excited about the Gospel of Jesus Christ! I love answering questions about the church and as I continue to do so I learn and grow myself so much. I love being a Mormon!

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church, certainly my parents taught us to read our scriptures daily and to attend church regularly and to keep the commandments. I got baptized at age 8 just like everyone else in my family but I was so ready to feel like I finally "belonged" to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. When we were little, my brother and I decided we were going to serve a mission together, not in the same place but at the same time. I have never doubted the truth of this church but there have been many instances where my testimony was strengthened hugely by small things that may not mean much to anybody else but to me it was like getting hit by a ton of bricks. One particular instance was when I was 13 and I had the opportunity to go to Girl's Camp which is a church camp through the Young Women's program. I had been reading the Book of Mormon and while I was there I actually finished for the first time of reading it strait through. When I had a quiet hour or two just to myself, I went down the path to the chapel, which is really just some benches and a podium in the middle of the woods. I sat down in the back and there was nobody else around. I had hoped that by praying about the truth of the Book of Mormon I would get to see angels trumpeting and singing, but I got something a little different. When I prayed and asked if I could know for myself I got a very warm feeling inside. I shifted almost too warm and felt somebody touch my upper back. I immediately turned around and nobody was behind me but the feeling of somebody's hand on my back stayed there. I bowed my head a little confused and then I heard somebody with a deep gentle voice laugh. I looked around again but nobody was there. Then I heard a very very soft voice saying, "My daughter, why do you ask me when you already know?" I know this church is true and I have a very strong testimony of Jesus Christ and of prayer. I love my Savior so much and I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

Right now I am serving a mission in Iowa. I am eagerly studying and trying to prepare the best that I can so that I can be an instrument in the Lord's hands. I know He loves all of His children and I want to do my best to communicate that love to everyone I come into contact with. Serving a mission is one of the hardest things I have decided to do in my life but it is also one of the most rewarding. I am learning so much and to be able to express that love of our Savior to all the people I meet-- It's just such an amazing experience. I have learned to love the people so much and I am excited to continue to learn more.
