Hi I'm Leilani

I was raised in Wyoming before moving to Hawaii to study Marine Biology. I love playing volleyball and running. I'm a mormon

About Me

I grew up in a small city and love the small town feel. While I am home I love to jog with my dogs around the lake, play volleyball and work as a lifeguard. I am studying Marine Biology in Hawaii, which is probably the best thing I could have done with my life up to this point. Hiking, camping, studying on the beach, sunrise runs and practicing my Ukulele fill most of my time not spent in the library. In the future I am hoping to obtain another degree in Zoology and then start my career in the field of marine mammal rehabilitation.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because everything in this religion makes sense. Through this church I have the foundational belief that Jesus Christ, our older brother and Savior, died for us so that we could have the chance to return to live with our Heavenly Father again, and that answers the most basic questions of every person on earth -why are we here. I also love being a Mormon because by being a member of this church I have learned the nature of my Heavenly Father and I know that he loves and truly cherishes every single one of his children and that he wants us to be happy more than anything in the world. For this to happen we obviously have to make choices that will bring us happiness and The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches me what types of decisions will bring me joy. This church teaches the cost and benefits of decisions that we make and the inspired leaders highly encourage us to make the decisions that will bring us the most eternal happiness. I have personally never felt more free and happy in my life than when I followed the guidelines set forth by the church. In the end though, I am Mormon because I love it. The whole church makes sense and it is so filled with truth, I have not found another church that makes me feel as whole and uplifted as this one. I love the special feeling/ spirit that comes from being a Mormon and living my life in complete accordance with teachings of the church. I feel at home when I go to church. I feel at peace.

How I live my faith

This past semester I was called to be the special assistant to the wards mission leader. In this calling I work closely with the missionaries that are assigned to our specific ward and we discuss ways to make people of other faiths feel welcome among us, and I have loved this calling. Since I am a little on the shy side before I get to know people, this has really pulled me out of my shell and forced me to grow. Before I moved to Hawaii I lived in a city where my religion was definitely in the minority. There were less than 10 LDS members in my graduating class. Since there were so few members, and LDS beliefs stand out in a country town, I was pretty much a walking billboard for my church - which I never minded. The people that surrounded me knew my values and beliefs and respected me enough that they never put me in situations that would cause for me to compromise my values. This made for an open relationship with me and those I associated with in the community which made it possible for any of them to ask me questions about what I believed and for me to share what I thought. It also made it possible for me to share what I believed without making them feel like I was forcing it upon them. In the end, I live my faith in the actions and words that I say everyday with every person that I come into contact with.
