Hi I'm Joshua Schiess

I'm a college kid, I love swimming, I feel life is too quiet without music, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have lived in about ten different states and traveled through many more. My dad is in the military and that has given me a chance to learn a lot of great things, most of all it has taught me how to accept change in my life. While growing up I went through many schools, and ended up graduating in Ogden Utah at Ben Lomond High School in the class of 2012. Throughout school I would go and hang out with friends, do some homework, and play all kinds of sports. Swimming is my favorite because while you want to be the best and fastest, it is really a race against yourself. When you can beat your last personal record, even if its just by tenths of a second, you feel like the world is in your hands and you can do anything. I served a full-time mission in Mesa Arizona where I helped others gain the desire to come closer to Christ. After my mission I decided to go to college at BYU-I working towards some sort of major in the engineerin and technician feild.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I want to be. Being a Mormon is not just a title, but rather a lifestyle. It is a lifestyle of learning and building a relationship with my Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ through prayer and scripture study. There is a quote that says, "Pray as if everything depended upon God, and then work as if everything depended upon you." During this life I need to do the best I can to be not only a good person and work hard, but to include Christ in my life and always follow him. I will follow him because I am not perfect, I follow him because he is an example and he loves me and wants the best for me. I know that life is hard and feels almost impossible at times, but because of Him there is a silver lining in the clouds. Knowing that makes things a little more bearable.

How I live my faith

How one lives purposfull faith can encompass a wide variety of options. My definition of faith is personal righteousness, basically I can gage the amount of faith I have by how I live my life. There are many things one can do to live a purposfull life, add faith into the mix and I feel it becomes simpler. Three main things I focus on in my life; Daily scripture study and meaningful prayer, and then going to church every week. Daily scripture study isnt just reading a chapter every night, its more than that; It includes reading with a purpose, a question, and a belief that what I am reading is true. Daily prayer is so similar and that is why it goes so hand in hand with the scriptures. It is how we can really grow our relationship with our Father in Heaven. Then there is weekly attendance at church, we shouldnt just go and roll with the emotions. We should listen to the Spirit and thoes teaching us there because we may learn something that will change our lives forever. Church is a hospital for the sinner, that includes all of us because we are not perfect, we go to be healed and help with the healing of others. These three things by the grace of God, grant us power to make our lives the best they can be at the same time show God and Christ our appreciation for their sacrifices and gifts.
