Hi I'm Richard

I'm a computer geek and outdoor enthusiast. I love mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, camping, and fishing. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in a very small, rural town in Idaho with a population of about 200 people. Lots of my youth was spent playing outside riding bicycles, motorcycles, and snowmobiles. I was active in Boy Scouts and earned my Eagle Scout award. Through Scouting I learned to love outdoor activities such as camping and backpacking. I developed an interest in computers at an early age and quickly learned everything I could about them. In high school if the teachers couldn't figure something out or couldn't fix a computer problem they would call me out of class to help them. It only seemed natural that I would use my computer skills in my future career. I earned a degree in computer science from Brigham Young University and now I'm a web application developer for the City of Portland, Oregon. I'm married and the father of four children: two boys and two girls. When I'm not busy working or spending time with the family, I can usually be found enjoying the beautiful outdoors. My favorite hobbies are mountain biking, hiking, backpacking, camping, and fishing.

Why I am a Mormon

I believe that Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior. As a believer and follower of Christ, I want to belong to His church. I'm a Mormon because the Church of Jesus Christ has been restored through the prophet Joseph Smith and is currently led by a living prophet today. I love the peace, comfort, and knowledge that the Gospel of Jesus Christ brings into my life. And I love the blessings that come from living righteously and following our Savior's example.

How I live my faith

Being a Mormon is more than attending church for a few hours every Sunday, although that is an important part. Being a Mormon is an everyday lifestyle. It's about trying to live every day as my Savior would want me to live. It's about repenting, seeking forgiveness, and being a better husband, father, and person today than I was yesterday. It's about helping and serving other people. It's about showing the Savior that I love him by keeping his commandments. It's about sharing the Gospel with others so that they can experience the joy and happiness that I have found.
