Hi I'm Dan Ito

I was born and raised in Japan. I was born with the disability called “Spinal Muscular Atrophy.”

About Me

I was born and raised in Japan. I was born with the disability called “Spinal Muscular Atrophy,” and so I have been on a wheel chair in my whole life. Three of my siblings were born the same way. Besides those three of them, I have two other brothers and another sister. I love my family and friends! I like smiling and making others smile. I also like to eat, to sing, and to speak English (since my native language is not English, it’s always fun for me to speak English!). I am currently a college student in Salt Lake City, Utah. I am majoring Business Entrepreneurship. My goal is to establish my own company.

Why I am a Mormon

Because my parents have been such faithful members of the Church, they always took me to church with them every Sunday since I was born. I got baptized at age 8, and I kept going to church with my family every Sunday. I was always excited to go there each week. Yet, I started to have a true faith in this Gospel recently as I got older and experienced many trials. I have three older siblings that have already passed away. They had the same disability that I have. One of them, who is my older sister, died before I was born. My two other older brothers died very recently. Although it’s been very tough to go through such situations, I always trust in God and so I can always stay peaceful and hopeful. I love the teaching of eternal family in this Gospel. I surely know that I will see them again at God’s feet someday. Growing up, I have had to get through many trials and always trusted in God. My faith in this Church has become so strong because of these experiences. I witness that every single event we experience in this life is to be done according to what God plans for every one of us and we can learn and grow from them. Regardless of how severe my disability is, God has always blessed me and my family. I have a strong testimony that because of this true Gospel I can find the greatest joy and happiness in my life no matter what. I testify with all my heart that this is the true Church. Thank you for reading it all.

How I live my faith

I do not forget to thank the Lord. Often times, when people first see me they might start to think that I am unhappier than other people due to my handicapped body. In fact, I am thoroughly a happy guy. I’m filled with so much happiness every day, every minute, every second. It is because I do know that the Lord lives. He personally knows me (and all his children such as you) and has prepared such great plans for my life (and your life). I have to live my life as a disabled person because it is a part of this wonderful plan that my beloved Father in Heaven has for me. I am always thankful for everything in this life. Whenever I thank the Lord for the blessings I have, my heart is filled with so much joy. Thus, it is crucial to always remember to show our gratitude towards the Lord. That is what I believe to be true. When I thank Him, I can better maintain happiness. When I thank Him, I can better feel the love of Him. When I thank Him, I can better love others. When I thank Him, I can better do good for others. I do testify that.
