Hi I'm Joseph Petersen

I'm from Roseville California. I'm a missionary in the Canada Winnipeg Mission. I'm a mormon.

About Me

Hi! I'm 20 years old and I'm currently serving as a missionary in the Canada Winnipeg mission. Before I came out on my mission I loved playing guitar. Music is something I've always enjoyed and I especially love playing it. I've played guitar since I was 11 and have played in a couple different band and school settings. Before my mission I just worked at Mcdonalds after I graduated high school. I'm not sure what career path I will follow after my mission but I have faith that God will guide me to make correct choices regarding life decisions. I'm not too worried about anything in my life but being on a mission at this point. I've loved my mission and as I have less than a year left to serve I'm just making the most out of this experience. God is good.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in this church and was always taught that I should find out if this church really was true or not. Through my teenage years I think I tried to muster up enough faith to get an answer from God but nothing ever came. This lead up until I was 18. I had prayed to know if the book of mormon was true but wasn't 100% sure. Then President Thomas S. Monson anounced that 18 year old males could now serve missions. It was the first time in my life where I HAD to know if this was true or not. So one sunday I knelt and prayed. But this time it was different; I really needed the answer and I had real intent to act on it. God answered my prayer that these things were true and I needed to serve a mission and share them with others. My testimony is the first reason I'm a mormon. The second is that everything just makes sense. All the doctrines, ordinances, and organization of the church just makes sense. The last reason I'm a mormon is simply because this church makes me happy. And that's because It's not a church made by man, it's God's church.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by sharing it with others. This church has brought me and my family so much joy over the years. As a missionary I've seen the wonderful change that takes place as people gain a knowledge that the things we teach are true. Not only on my mission but throughout my life I want to share this gospel with others because i know how happy it will make them. I want to live my life the way God would have me live it. I look to Him to light the path for me to follow.

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Joseph Petersen
It is up to every young man or women to serve a mission. We all have our own agency. issions are wondeful and most members to choose to serve a mission. Elders must be at least18 years old and serve for a period of 24 months. Sister missionaries can serve when they are 19 years old and serve for a period of 18 months. It is expected that every young man should serve a mission. while there is this expectation, we still do have our agency and it is not required of us. Young women, can serve a mission if they desire, but it is not expected of them. Show more Show less
