Hi I'm Shelly

I grew up in Vegas. I'm a Rec Major and Culinary Minor. I'm serving in Brisbane, Australia on my mission!! I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm a outdoorsy kind of girl who's not afraid to repel off a cliff! Sunburn is my middle name in the summertime! I love the feeling of spiking the ball in a volleyball game or making a goal in a soccer game. I would be outside instead of inside any day. I have a huge love for cooking and making food look gourmet! It's awesome when your cooking textbooks are the same size as my friend's chemistry textbooks. There's nothing like seeing people eat my food and wanting second helpings. Music is another huge part of my life. It expresses my emotions in ways words never can. Without music life would be dull for me! Whither it's singing or dancing I love music! Lastly, the new and best part of my life to come, is the decision I have made to serve an 18 month mission for this amazing church. I'm excited and honored to serve the people of Brisbane, Australia!! The place I have always dreamed of going to! I'm just a bubbly 21 year old looking for an adventure everyday of my life!!

Why I am a Mormon

Being a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is the best part of my life and I'm not lying!! I have been a member of the church my whole life but I believe that every member has their own conversion story. Mine happened at Girls came when I was 14. We went to Salt Lake Utah and were touring the Conference Center. Throughout the whole day I was feeling worthless and that for the first time in my life that God may not exist. I said a prayer in my heart to know if God was even there, if he knew me, and if he truly did care. I had thoughts if this gospel I had learned all my life was even the truth and in it's fullness. Was I just making this all up in my head? Is this all a big joke? I thought if this is Heavenly Father I need to know! That night at the campfire we had the privilege of Elder Jeffrey R. Holland, one of the quorum of the Twelve Apostles come and speak to us.When he started to speak he said something along the lines of, "I didn't know what I was suppose to speak about tonight but I had the impression to tell someone here that You ARE Loved! That your Heavenly Father knows you and that he hears you! Your Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ love you so very much!" At that moment the Spirit touched my heart. The feeling of Heavenly Father's love filled me inside. That night was the night I witnessed the gospel was true. Heavenly Father answered my prayer that night! Each and everyday I have faith building experiences but as of that night, I knew this gospel to be true and so can you! Your Father in Heaven loves you so much and don't you EVER forget that! I can not doubt the love Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ has for me and all his Children.

How I live my faith

Growing up in Las Vegas had it's challenges but I have learned so much from living there. My testimony has been tested over and over again! At times it seemed I was the only one but then I remember I have the Savior right by my side and he knows exactly what I'm going through. Even though I am still young I have served a lot in the church. From working with the Young Women from my youth to now in college being a leader over all the other college aged women in my ward. I have grown and learned so much from these amazing young women through their trials and experiences. From suicide to marriage these women know their Heavenly Father and that their Savior loves them so much, as do I! Serving a mission I know will be hard but I know the growth that will come will far outweigh the fears. Don't ever hesitate to serve a mission because I know the people you will meet and lives that will change will forever be thankful!

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

Shelly
Absolutely not! All missionaries volunteer to come out to serve missions. Take it from one who is doing so! Deciding to serve a mission is my personal decision! I would not leave my family, friends, education, job, country, my life, etc! I WOULD NOT do that unless I knew this to be true and I made that decision myself. The Savior has taught us to serve those around us and to love those around us. One of those ways is to share what makes us truly happy in this life and that is the Gospel of Jesus Christ! This is the reason why I have decided to go on a mission. I want to follow in the Savior's footsteps! His way is the only way. Show more Show less
