Hi I'm Janette

I love cookie dough, hiking, and teaching. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm a middle child in a family that resides in a red brick house with a large, traditional maple tree taking up most of the front yard. Right now I live in an apartment, though, as I study Elementary Education at a university. I love playing with and learning from children and try to find time to be in elementary schools on a weekly basis. I play the flute and piccolo and enjoy singing as well. My family comes primarily from Denmark and Poland, but we do have some English and Welsh (or as I like to say, "whale-ish") heritage in me as well. My dream vacation has been and forever will be Disneyland. The time I spend with other people, whether old or young is time well-spent. And I know first-hand the magic that can come as a result of wishing on dandelion puffs and then working hard--dreams do come true!

Why I am a Mormon

My knowledge of the truth of the message of the Church came a piece at a time. The first truth I discovered was at the age of 12 or 13, when I felt and knew that I am a daughter of a loving Heavenly Father. Since that time, I have come to understand that Jesus Christ is my Savior and Redeemer--that He loves me. I have gotten to know Him as the ultimate listener and know that He experienced every challenge we encounter in our lives. Because He died for us, we can live again. Through His suffering and grace, we are healed and enabled to return to our heavenly home. Since I love my family, I want to be with them forever. I know that families can be eternal. I also know that God speaks to prophets on the earth today as He did in ancient times. I follow the living prophet because I have felt God's witness that he is the only man on earth with the authority to lead Christ's restored Church. Joseph Smith was the first such prophet after the dark ages, and I know the Book of Mormon, which he translated, to be the words of our Heavenly Father to us. As I live those words, I feel the joy and peace of knowing that it is what God wants me to do. I am a Mormon because I know my God and my Savior and the truths they have shown to prophets today.

How I live my faith

A major part of my participation in church is through music. I work on a committee to bring the joy of music to the members of my ward each Sunday. This is significant to me because much of what I know of Jesus Christ and His Church came through music. Besides Sundays, though, I live my faith by visiting with other members and strengthening those in need. I've discovered the power of a plate of cookies and a smile at the door or across the hall. I have fortified my family and brought us closer by consciously choosing to think and behave positively to both siblings and parents. Perhaps most importantly, though, I live my faith by trying always to be my best self and share that self with those who come into my life.
