Hi I'm Shawn

I'm from Washington State, and love the rain! I'm a musician, a solver of puzzles, a bit crazy, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Growing up, I was shy. As time went on, I began to grow out of my shell and express myself as the person I am today. I have a love for people, in who each person is and how he or she acts. I have a love for music, especially in creating a joyous melody that is relaxing to the ear. I am a hard worker, and when I set my mind to something I don't stop until I get it done. I am currently a student studying at BYU-I to become a nurse, with a final goal of being a nurse anesthetist. The more I learn about the human body, the more intrigued I am with God's greatest creation.

Why I am a Mormon

About 4 years ago, I was going through extremely hard times for a guy my age (17 at the time). It felt like every day, a new problem rose. These problems were not simple problems, such as forgetting an assignment at school, or running low on gas. They were family, friends, and personal problems. These problems filled my heart with questions that could only be answered through religion. I ended up talking with a person who I had hardly known about my problems (which did not often express with others, so this was a huge step for me). I asked her what gave her peace in life, and she started to, unintentionally, do missionary work. She bore her testimony to me, which led me to ask if she would not mind "holding my hand" (metaphorically speaking) if I went to church with her. That next Sunday, we went together. From that day on, I grew attached to the spirit. I kept coming back, and eventually got introduced to the missionaries. One lesson led to another, and I eventually made the decision to be baptized. I was baptized December 18th, 2011, and it has changed my life up ever since in so many ways. I have been greatly blessed to have met the girl, who I now call my sister, as well as a wonderful family who helped me along the way. I am so blessed to be a part of this church, and am so glad that I know now that wherever I go, no matter what I will always have the Lord with me.

How I live my faith

Every day is an opportunity for me to grow. After my baptism, my faith grew stronger and stronger as the days went by. Eventually I was led to serve a full time mission in the Manchester New Hampshire mission. It was such an amazing experience to go from learning the lessons, to understanding them, and then eventually teaching them myself to others. Although I can't teach people on a daily basis the way I did as a missionary anymore, I can still brighten other's lives through living the best example of the Savior I possibly can. I also know that by living in harmony with the commandments of God, my life has received many blessings of which I am grateful for.

What is being a Mormon like?

The difference between who I was before I became a Mormon and who I am now is large, but only because I wanted my life to be different. It is easy to follow the commandments we believe in. The hard part is changing daily to focus your life more on the Savior than yourself. It is a constant process to overcome bad habits and traits and develop traits that Christ desires for us to obtain. The blessings of being a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints are limitless, and make being a Mormon completely worth it. Show more Show less
