Hi I'm Preston Buckley

Road trippin, basketball lovin, trail blazin Mormon!

About Me

I'm pretty much obsessed with night running. I've grown this tradition of every Friday night to run anywhere from 10-20 miles starting at midnight. There's just a crazy runners high I get when under the stars; either running on empty streets, or on a trail through Washington's dense forests. Every once in a while a friend will tag along, and we might run on the track after dark. I did my first 30 miler this last winter. I am an Eagle Scout. I love backpacking. I grew up a swimmer, so I'll do anything in the water. I am currently serving my Mission in Scottsdale, Arizona. I have never been so excited to serve the Lord and help others feel the way I do about my faith and testimony.

Why I am a Mormon

Never for one second have I doubted my testimony of the Mormon faith. There is no way I can deny the truth of what this church teaches. All this church does is teach people to come unto Christ and be perfected in Him. The Scriptures teach us to be selfless, kind, humble and meek. If Satan had any influence over the writings of the Book of Mormon then he would be teaching his kingdom to be divided against itself (Matthew 12: 25-26). I am still a Mormon because of all the many blessings that living the church's standards brings. We are taught to always serve others and progress toward perfection through following Christ's example. I am a Mormon because it helps me live an honorable lifestyle. It helps me to be truly proud of who I am, and teaches me all that I can become.

How I live my faith

I have been wanting to serve a mission my whole life. To me personally there is no greater expression of love toward our Heavenly Father than to dedicate your life to serving Him. I am serving in the Arizona Scottsdale Mission to express my love for my Savior and for the people in my areas. I strive to be a good example to others in all that I do. More than anything I want the people I teach to feel the love and peace that has been such a blessing in my life.

To what do you attribute the growth of the Church?

Preston Buckley
True happiness is contagious. The absolute greatest feelings the Holy Ghost can make us feel is that of eternal joy and piece of conscience. The Spirit of God dwells in truth. This church has the truth. I know that is true. And people can feel it. As the truth of the Gospel spreads, the Holy Ghosts testifies to the hearer the truthfulness of the message. When people feel the spirit touch their heart they begin to taste of the sweet fruit the Gospel has to offer. When it comes down to the root of our motivations, people join the church because of how it makes them feel and the blessings it brings into their life. I believe that the church grows as fast as it does because of the Holy Ghost. That is the only way that it could draw in as many people as it has. The comforter, or Spirit of God is contagious. It draws us toward God's restored church. It makes us want to share it with others. If it was not the truth, than the Holy Ghost would lead the people a different way and the growth of the church would diminish. Show more Show less

What do Mormons believe concerning the doctrine of grace?

Preston Buckley
God's Grace is the divine help or strength given to man that make it possible for him to return into the presence of the Father. Without the grace of God, man is nothing. The ultimate act of grace is the Atonement of Jesus Christ. When Christ suffered for our sins it provided us with the opportunity to be perfected in Him through repentance, baptism for the remission of sins, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost. Only through the desire and sincerity of our hearts and complete submission to His will can we obtain the blessings of the Atonement. God's grace is available to all because of the perfect and eternal love he has for each and every one of us. All miracles and blessings we have in our life, even our very existence is a result of the grace of God. Show more Show less
