Hi I'm Nannette*

I'm a quadruple threat; dancer, actor, singer, storyteller. Best job, I am a wife, a mother of six, and I’m a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in Southern California. I graduated with a BFA in Music Dance Theatre from BYU. When I was younger, I dreamed of being on Broadway and in movies. My husband and I have been married for 23 years and we have six children. Broadway didn’t fit in with my dual dream of having a family but their love is better than applause or acclaim and it lasts. I am a performing artist and a storyteller. I manage a story theatre company and a story teaching company. I also get to direct a national youth storytelling program. I love to run, garden, cook, bake 3-D cakes, and I’m learning to play the guitar. I served a full-time mission in South Africa. Oh, and I love hugs.

Why I am a Mormon

Wow. How long do you have for my answer? I love Jesus Christ and His gospel. I grew up Mormon in an area filled with other cultures and religions. I was surrounded by good people and had great friends. There were choices to make all along the way and I felt happier when I was following what the scriptures said. Some choices were tough because they went against the norm; I didn’t have junior high boyfriends, I chose not to drink. When I first stood up for my choices, I lost friends and was made fun of. Those were lonely years but I knew what I believed was true and would bring lasting happiness and strength. Holding fast to my beliefs and explaining them earned me real friends and respect from others. In high school, there were friends who defended my choices and religion. I looked for religious answers at an early age and found them. The Gospel of Jesus Christ gives me hope in a weary world. His teachings make me happy and I find security in living them. I get answers to my prayers and I have seen miracles happen. I have proved the doctrine I found in the Bible. The Book of Mormon strengthens that doctrine. I have a connection with what happened in this world from the beginning through what will happen in the future. From the beginning of time God has talked to His people through living prophets who have His authority. I recognize that pattern in this church today. I know who I am. I know why I am here. I know what will happen when I die. I live with a purpose!

How I live my faith

Every day, I make choices that show myself and others whether or not I am a disciple of Christ. In the New Testament, Jesus asked followers to actively do things as they followed Him. Having found Jesus, I do what He asked us to. I made some critical choices a long time ago, like not smoking, drinking, or taking drugs. I don’t have to think about those. I do think about honesty and treating others with kindness, love, and forgiveness. Every day is a choice and it is a wonderful life living to look for the best in others and myself. As a volunteer in my community, I work with a world class storytelling organization coaching young people in the art of storytelling. I believe in the power of building a stronger community by helping other people realize who they are and what they can do. I hope my business contacts can see that I follow Jesus Christ through my ethics. I serve in my local congregation any way I am asked. Currently as an activity leader of young girls. I also work with a partner nurturing and visiting two specific ladies. I pray and study my scriptures every day. My husband and I teach our children how to find answers to their prayers. Ideas come to mind that I follow to find someone to serve or someone who needs my help. I share knowledge and my testimony as often as I can so other people can learn how to find true joy.
