Hi I'm India

I'm an American student living in Barcelona, Spain. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I'm a college student. Right now I'm a full time student at a book arts conservatory, where I learn about how to make and repair books. I would like to work in conserving books for a museum, library, or archive. Or, I'd like to work in a printing museum and own a letterpress.

Why I am a Mormon

This has been my religious community since birth. But as I've grown older and had a chance to make my own life, I've found that this faith is what gives my life direction. I am happier on a day-to-day basis when I make choices that are in line with what I've learned to do my whole life at church. It encourages me to grow and try to be my best self. I like who I am more when I am living the gospel of Jesus Christ the best that I can.

How I live my faith

I'm involved in the group of Mormon youth here in Barcelona. Last weekend we went to another city to repaint the inside of a home for children with disabilities. We do a lot of different activities, some are to socialize (like dances!) and some are focused on serving the community. Every month I'm assigned to visit three of the women in my congregation. I enjoy getting to know those people ... they are usually older than me and have a lot of life experience to share. Here I speak Spanish at church, but the gospel--the teachings of Jesus Christ--don't change! I love being able to be in another country and worship the same way.

Does The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints endorse political parties?

No, it doesn't! Members make their own decisions about how to vote. When I lived in Utah, I found the the Mormon community there to be politically conservative. In Minnesota, where I grew up, there was a balance. Here in Barcelona, many of the Mormons are socialists. From Spain I vote with an absentee ballott. In the US I volunteered for President Obama's campaign. Show more Show less
