Hi I'm Jacob Hall

I'm a military brat. I love being in the great outdoors, watching movies and reading. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am the oldest of four. One of my favorite things to do is to spend time with my family. I enjoy every sport except for baseball, and I don't care who I play with as long as they play fair. My favorite sport is ultimate Frisbee. I love having fun in the great outdoors, hiking and camping. But I also enjoy playing computer games and board games, particularly strategy games. This past year I attended college at BYU Idaho. I am currently majoring in mechanical engineering, but I plan on attending Utah State University where I hope to become an areonautical engineer. My dream in life is to design and build a nuclear-powered rocket. I am currently serving a full-time mission for my church, and loving every minute.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a seventh generation Mormon; so I have a long family history of being Mormon. My parents have always been firm believers of living the gospel. From a very early age my parents have taught me to strictly live by the standards set by the Church. They have each taught me a very important lesson throughout my life: service and obedience bring happiness. Their influence is a big reason why I love this Church. It is not, however the biggest. I love this Church because I know it is Christ's true church restored to the Earth. I know this because I have studied the Book of Mormon often and then prayed to God, asking him to help me know that it is true. I have received a witness that it is. I have seen the blessings of living by the Church's standards and doing my utmost to follow Christ. I have been able to find peace and happiness whenever I have kept living the gospel. I know that only by following Jesus Christ we can have peace and happiness in this life. I know the Book of Mormon is true, and I love reading and studying it. I have seen the gospel bless my family in countless ways, and it has brought us very close. I know that families are very important in God's plan for us.

How I live my faith

I am an Eagle Scout. I have served in several church callings including secretary, first assistant, fast offerings collector, as a home teacher, and as a temple patron. As a home teacher I've had the opportunity to participate in many service projects, such as rebuilding a fence, mowing lawns, etc. I have been privilaged to help people move in and out of their homes and to assist in the completion of several Eagle Projects. I now serve as a full-time missionary in Louisiana and I will continue serving until 2015. Being a missionary means giving service and teaching about Jesus Christ.

What is done with the tithing that Mormons pay?

Jacob Hall
The Church uses tithing to fund the construction of temples and churchs, providing teaching materials such as Bibles and Books of Mormon and to help missionaries with their finacial needs. Also services such as family history work are funded by tithing. Basically tithing is used to help maintain the Church and to sponser its growth. The law of tithing has always been pretty easy for me to live. I have learned that your perspective changes your attitude toward tithing. If you think of the money you earn and the talents that you've developed are inherently yours, then you will probably have difficulty paying tithing. But if you remember that God has blessed you with the talents and abilities, not to mention a job, to earn that money and all he asks is that you give 10% back, then it is much easier to live the law, because you approach with an attitude of gratitude. Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Jacob Hall
Of course we do! Every good Christian has a strong testemony of the Bible because its main focus is on Christ. In the Old Testement there are countless prophesies about the Savior's coming and in the New Testement there is the record of Christ's life and Earthly ministry. Our knowledge about Jesus Christ's Atonement comes from the Bible. Just because we have the Book of Mormon doesn't mean God replaced the Bible; God has just added to it. The words of God are of great value so we treasure both the Bible and the Book of Mormon as precious gifts from God. Show more Show less

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Jacob Hall
The Word of Wisdom is like a health code for life. Specifically it tells us not to use tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea, and illegal drugs, and to treat our bodies with respect. So more than just not using harmful substances, we need to do good things for our body such as exercising regularly, sleeping enough, and eating healthy. The Word of Wisdom isn't a list of do's and don'ts; its a pattern for healthy and happy living. I know that by following the Word of Wisdom that we can be blessed "to run and not be weary, and walk and not faint." Besides, being healthy feels good! Show more Show less
