Hi I'm Peter Tolman

I'm an entrepreneur, high school teacher, lover of outdoor sports, proud new father, lucky husband, and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

Life is my passion. I love every day of it. I have the most amazing wife in the world and the most beautiful baby girl in the world. I love travelling. My list of places to go is almost as long as a list of all the countries in the world. I love sports. Skiing through fresh powder is one of the best sensations in the world. I hate exercising for exercise's sake but if you put a ball in front of me I will run all day long. I love entrepreneurship and small business. There is little that is as rewarding as building something great. My dream is to be a serial entrepreneur in developing countries. I'm currently building my first business in Ethiopia. The world is full of opportunities. I love God and His son Jesus Christ. It is only through the Gospel of Jesus Christ that we are able to find real lasting joy. All of the other things in my life are wonderful but they cannot provide what my religion and my family give me.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up as a member of the Mormon church. However, it took some soul-searching to find out for myself that this is how I want to live my life. As a teenager I went to seminary and fell in love with the scriptures. I loved how I felt when I read them. I loved how I felt when I applied the principles. Life was bliss. I then went through some time when I stopped studying my scriptures and living the principles as closely. Life was different. The bliss was gone. I was able to see the difference and see what I was missing. I knew that if I wanted to truly be happy I needed to be very involved in the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I knew that I needed to study the Book of Mormon and the Bible. I knew I needed to follow the teachings of the modern-day Prophet. I then was a missionary in Uganda and Ethiopia for two years. It was the greatest experience of my life. I came to know God and his love. I came to understand what life is all about. I found true joy in the service of the African people. I love being a Mormon!

How I live my faith

I have the best job there is. I get to wake up every morning and teach teenagers about the Gospel of Jesus Christ. It brings me great hope to see the upcoming generation have so much passion for the scriptures. The class is called Seminary. The leave the school for one class period every day to come study the Gospel. They build each other up, encourage one another, and learn from their peers. I also get to be involved in the scouting program. This summer we are taking five boys to Jackson Hole to river-raft, mountain bike, and canoe. Last year we spent a week at the Great Basin National Park. These trips are not only great for the boys but incredibly rewarding for me. I feel it is my job to show everyone how I feel about Jesus Christ by the way I live my life. I hope that the greatest lessons I ever teach are those without words. There is nothing that brings us closer to God than serving His children.

Do Mormons regard the Bible as Holy Scripture and the word of God?

Peter Tolman
I will admit that I didn't read the Bible until I was 18. I fell in love with the Bible. We Mormons study, believe, and love the Bible. God has always spoken to His children through prophets and the Bible is our record of his dealings with his people in times of old. We are able to learn more about His nature and character as we study His words and His interactions with His children. I know for myself that the Bible is the word of God and will bring us closer to Him. We also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God. It sits in perfect harmony with the Bible in its teachings of Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
