Hi I'm Mark

I'm a 66-year old retiree. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have a Bachelor's degree in Physics and an MBA. I spent my career in high-tech management. I'm a grandfather. I love reading and fishing. I speak, read and write Finnish fluently. I have even translated a history book from Finnish to English.

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a Mormon. I sincerely believe that Jesus Christ is my Savior and that he spoke to Joseph Smith. I have read the Book of Mormon many times and know that it is true. I believe in modern revelation and know that a living prophet leads the Mormon Church today and speaks for God, just as prophets did anciently. I find great personal comfort in the teachings of the Mormon Church. Living according to these teachings makes me happy and gives me hope for the future.

How I live my faith

I lead a group of mostly older men who provide service in our neighborhood. We visit in the homes of our neighbors by assignment at least once a month to ensure that their spiritual and temporal needs are being met. We are particularly concerned about caring for single women, both with and without children living at home.

What are some things that tell you there is a God?

Whenever I'm asked this question, I like to turn it around and ask the questioner, "What makes you think there isn't a God?" I cannot accept the idea that all of the marvels of the natural world around us are merely accidental, or that there is no purpose to our existence. The more I learn about the world around me and about myself as a sentient being, the more convinced I become that there is meaning and purpose in these things. That implies a creator; it implies God. What is the Book of Mormon?

The Book of Mormon contains the writings of prophets who lived in ancient America. The ancestors of these people came from Jerusalem about 600 B.C. The writings of these prophets testify of Jesus Christ and his atonement. It tells of his visit to the Americas following his resurrection. It contains his gospel in more clarity than can be found in the Bible as we have it today. It is a book with a promise. The last prophet to write in it promised that those who read it and sincerely pray about it can know for themselves that it is true. Show more Show less
