Hi I'm Summer Swisher

I'm a convert from Texas. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I’m Summer, and I'm a daughter of my Heavenly Father. I converted to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in January of 2013. I have been called to serve as a sister missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Tampa, Florida. Preaching in the English language. I leave October 22nd, 2014.

Why I am a Mormon

I think God prepares people in different ways. Personally, I had been on my own for years, and had always relied solely on myself for trials and hardships. Heavenly Father knew I was stubborn in that way, and too self-sufficient for my own good. For that year before finding the missionaries, I was hit with the hardest trials of my life. Those hardships were what prepared me for the gospel. I think they would have kept coming until I finally recognized what they were for- to teach and humble myself; to allow the thought that I needed something else, someone else, to make it through. It wasn’t until I broke down and prayed for the first time, sincerely asking for help that the grace of God fell on me that morning so unannounced that it took away all of my thoughts and left only a quiet, still feeling. I recognize that now as being the Holy Ghost. Immediately I was contacted by friends who were members of the church, who were able to explain to me the answers to everything I had questioned all along. I finally felt that everything would be alright, and that I had reached my starting point of what would bring me happiness for the eternities.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by continuously becoming stronger and trying to be better each day. Now that almost two years have passed since my baptism, I have a lot of people and events that have helped me stay strong in the gospel. It requires being involved- in your calling, in your ward, in church events, in fast/testimony meetings, in everything that the church offers us to participate in- we need to participate in. It requires your daily work. You have to pray and read your scriptures daily, and use the tools we have online to remind yourself of what we are working for. I’ve spent so many of my afternoons watching Mormon Messages or the biblical videos Mormon.org offers us. It helps me to have a visual account of the Savior to combine with my scripture study. Lastly, I create a support system wherever I go. I don’t have my family to support me in my decision to join the church, so I made my ward members and missionaries my family and support system, and that has made all the difference. Choose your friends wisely, spend time each day teaching yourself the gospel and always be involved; it will make all the difference. This is how I live my faith.
