Hi I'm Michael

I'm an author and a poet and serving a full-time mission for the Church. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm an aspiring author who loves to write everything from short poems to full-length novels. I like to draw, mostly doodles and sketches of landscapes and buildings. I'm the oldest child of four and I love my siblings dearly! I adore my younger brother and sisters dearly, even though they can get on my nerves at times! But I wouldn't trade them for anything and know that we'll always be close as a family. I love the Boy Scouts of America and I am an Eagle scout. From the scouting program I've developed a passion for camping and archery, as well as a deep love for nature. Being a scouter has really taught me how to be a better leader, as well as how to be safe while having fun. Right now, I am serving a full-time mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. It's hard work, but such an amazing experience! I've seen so many people grow closer to their Heavenly Father and see a change for the better in lives that once had no light in them.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the gospel of Christ is a gospel of families and happiness. I know that through the gospel, my family can be together forever through the eternities to come. This is especially touching to me because just a few years ago I lost my mother to a heart condition. It was the hardest thing I have ever had to endure. But with the truthfulness of the gospel, I know that someday I'll see my sweet mother again and that I'll always be her son. The path of righteousness is a hard road to travel, but it is full of blessings and rewards for those who walk it. It has brought me the sweetest happiness that I know I can't find anywhere else. I have met the most amazing people and been able to bring that same sweet happiness into the lives of my brothers and sisters.

How I live my faith

Right now, I live my faith every day as I serve my Lord full-time as a missionary. Every day I study scripture, serve my fellow siblings and help teach those who wish to learn more about the gospel. It is such a blessing to both my family and me for me to be out and about doing the Lord's work every day! Every morning and every night I pray to my Heavenly Father and talk about what I want to accomplish. During my early morning prayer I tell Him what goals I want to accomplish and ask for His help in working towards them. I find that my day simply goes "better" when I ask for my Father in Heaven's help. During my bedtime prayers I review my day with Father and reflect on what I did well and where I could use improvement. One of my favorite times during my busy schedule is my "personal study" time - a time for me to quietly read the scriptures and reflect on the passages I've taken in. It is amazing to read and re-read the stories told within the holy word and see how Christ is truly testified of in the Old Testament, the New Testament and the Book of Mormon!

Are all Mormons required to serve a mission?

In the Mormon culture there is a strong push for missionary service, but it isn't required. However, it is greatly emphasized for young men and young women alike, as well as senior couples. We view missionary work as a privilege to serve our brothers and sisters, as well as to serve our Lord. We believe very strongly in agency, or freedom to choose for oneself. If missions were a requirement, it would infringe on that belief. Thus, everyone who serves a mission makes the choice to go and submits paperwork to apply to serve. Everyone who serves a mission for the church chooses to go out of their own free will. As a missionary, I love serving the Lord! It is two years I can set apart to serve with all my "heart, might, mind and strength." (D&C 4) There is nowhere else I'd rather be than out in the mission field! Show more Show less
