Hi I'm Amanda

I grew up in Utah. I play the harp and like to run and I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I graduated high school a couple years ago and then attended BYU Idaho for a year. That was a wonderful experience and I eventually want to go back and get my degree in psychology there. Right now I am living with my family and working as I prepare to leave on a mission for my church. One of my biggest hobbies is music and I love playing my harp and especially finding songs that I can sing to well playing at the same time. I also love to run and ran my first marathon with my dad last September.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in the church and I think that I always believed it was true because it just felt right to me. However, it was not until I was about sixteen that my personal faith was really tested and I came to know from personal experience that the Book of Mormon and teachings of the Church were true. As sixteen year old dealing with anxiety and sadness over family problems, as well as a lack of friends and a lot of loneliness I decided to turn to my Savior for help. I remember clearly a pivotal point in my life where I was angry and hurting and didn't really want to talk to God but prayed to him anyway because I knew that I needed his help. It was amazing to me how much love and peace he helped me to feel as well as all the little miracles I began to notice in my life as I continued to turn to him. For the first time in my life I began really studying my scriptures daily, looking for answers and guidance in them. I also began going with a friend to the temple every week to do baptisms for the dead. This means that that we were baptized for people who had already passed on, giving them the opportunity in the next life to accept the baptism if they chose to. Doing these things brought incredible peace into my life and I found that being close to God allowed me to feel that way no matter what circumstances were going on around me. I am excited to be gong on a mission in two months so that I can help bring this message of peace and love into the lives of others who are searching for it.

How I live my faith

I am responsible for teaching lessons on Sunday to women in my ward. This has been a wonderful experience and I have learned a lot as I have tried to prepare and teach these lessons which come from a book of teachings from the prophets of the church. Classes are all about learning and growing together and so I very much try and avoid just lecturing. It is important to me to use my own personal experiences to share how I know what I know and invite others to do the same in class. I also am going on a mission for my church in Georgia to help spread the gospel to people there. I know that the gospel brings so much happiness and I want to help people to have that happiness that I have.

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Amanda
Both the Book of Mormon and the Bible are both testaments of our Savior Jesus Christ. The Bible came from the Jews and the Book of Mormon was written by prophets on the American continent. It was buried by a prophet named Moroni who appeared to Joseph Smith and told him of the plates and where to find them. Joseph Smith was then able to translate the book into English by the help of God. Both books support each other and were written to bring people to Christ. Show more Show less
