Hi I'm Cory

I grew up in St. Cloud, FL. I now live in Utah. I work in education. I am a coach. And I am a Mormon.

About Me

I am originally from Utah, grew up most of my life in Florida, and am now back in Utah. I love sports (particularly track and field and basketball) and fitness. I studied Physical Education in college and have a masters degree in Sport Conditioning and Performance. In college I competed on the track and field team primarily as a high jumper, but also ran on some of the relay teams and completed a couple decathlons. I work in education; currently working with special needs students. I am also an assistant high school track coach; coaching the high jump and long jump. I have been a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (aka...a Mormon) my entire life.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised as a Mormon. I spent most my life doing things just because that is what I was taught and how I had been raised. I didn't put much effort into the church or other spiritual things. I wasn't against the church, or really ever want to rebel or anything like that. I just found it easy to kind of coast and go through the motions because it was what I knew. As I got older I found it to be much harder to live off other people's testimony. I knew I had to find out for myself and gain my own testimony. Despite being aware of this, I still allowed my stubbornness to prevail and it took me a lot longer than it probably should have to really put the effort into knowing for myself and gaining my own testimony. Over the years, through constant stumbling and rededication, I have formed my own testimony of the truthfulness of this gospel. Though I've made some mistakes and undoubtedly made it harder on myself than it needed to be, the Lord has still blessed me with many spiritual experiences that have testified to me that He is God, and this is his Gospel on the Earth today. I know it. And because I know it I continue to try and work through and over come my weaknesses, and be the best disciple of Christ I can be.

How I live my faith

I live my faith in many different ways. One such way is by being an active church member. I regularly attend my church meetings, and I give church service by serving in various callings when called upon. I have served in various leadership capacities, have taught Sunday school, and have worked with the youth. I also try to be available to give other types of service to the other members of the congregation and the community such as helping someone move, helping with yard work, shoveling snow, etc. I also live my faith simply by trying to follow Christ's example each day. I try to treat others the way I would like to be treated. I try to be kind and polite to everyone. I try to be patient and slow to anger. I make an effort to be a positive source in people's life. I strive to be humble and to not get caught up in pride. I am no where near perfect, and make mistakes and fall short often. When I do make mistakes or fall short I do my best to rectify the situation and recommit to do better next time. Each day I make a conscience effort to do the these things and to, in some way, be a little bit better than I was the day before.
