Hi I'm Dave

I'm a life-long member of the LDS church; I love living in Portland, I'm a big sports fan, and I love to hang out with my family.

About Me

I grew up in Oregon in a family of 5 boys. I was very involved in music and sports as a kid and was also active in Boy Scouts. During my college years I served a mission for my church in Australia. I received my PhD in Clinical Psychology from BYU and moved back to Oregon along with my wife and new daughter. I took a job at the Portland VA Medical Center. I still work there and I am the Chief of Psychology and Director of the Mental Health Division. My wife and I have been married for over 25 years and we have three children. In my spare time I like to play tennis, hit the food scene here in Portland, go to the Oregon Coast with my family, or play drums in the band with my buddies.

Why I am a Mormon

Though I was raised in the Mormon faith I went through my own process of discovery and decision-making related to my beliefs. I chose to serve a two-year mission for the church and was assigned to labor in Australia. While there I had many personal spiritual experiences that provided the basis for my spiritual identity. My beliefs are centered on the divinity of Jesus Christ and his role as our Savior. I believe he has provided us with his gospel so we can find happiness in our lives.

How I live my faith

My faith is a big part of my life--probably the biggest part of my life. My family and I pray together each day; I like to read the scriptures often and I am involved in church related activities throughout the week. Each week on Sunday we attend church worship services and I also participate in services in our local Temple during the month. I have an assignment in the church to visit some of the members of our congregation each month and check on their welfare. I also have some administrative duties with several of the local congregations. I am actively involved in these activities because my faith is very important to me.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Dave
The Bible is one of the most important testaments of Jesus Christ. It provides us with a witness from many prophets and other devoted people that Christ lived on this earth, died for us, and was resurrected from the dead. Show more Show less
