Hi I'm Carter Payne

I'm from American Fork, Utah. I am aspiring to become an oncologist. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a missionary for the church serving the people in Madagascar. Before becoming a missionary, I was studying physiology and developmental biology at my local university. I will continue my studies after my mission with the hopes of entering medical school and becoming an oncologist to treat patients with cancer. Some things I love to do are play tennis, as well as anything outdoors like mountain biking and hiking. I absolutely love spending time with my family and friends and I value my relationships more than anything else.

Why I am a Mormon

Why am I a Mormon? I guess I started out being a Mormon because my parents raised me to be so. But it's not enough to rely on my parents' knowledge, so as I grew up I studied the Book of Mormon and learned for myself that this gospel is true. I am a Mormon because I know that what Mormons believe is the only way we can truly come to know Christ and return to live with our Heavenly Father. Other churches do contain some parts of the truth, but only the Mormon church has the fully restored gospel with living prophets that guide us to the right path. I know that this church is true because I have felt the Holy Ghost manifest the truth of it to me, and I cannot deny the things that I have felt. I know that Joseph Smith was a true prophet through whom God worked to restore the gospel, and that he saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in the flesh. I know that Jesus Christ lived on this earth and taught us his gospel, and then suffered and died out of his eternal love for us so that we can repent of our sins to become clean and worthy to live with Him and Heavenly Father again. I know that these things are true, and that is why I am a Mormon.

How I live my faith

Growing up, I was always very active in my local congregation, attending church every Sunday and participating in my youth groups. I held several leadership positions among my peers like president of the deacons and as an assistant to the bishop. I also loved to share the gospel with my neighbors and ward members through home teaching. At least once a month I would go out with my dad to visit neighbors in their homes to help them with anything they might need as well as share a brief spiritual message. Currently I am serving as a missionary, meaning that I have dedicated two years of my life to spreading what I know to be true about the gospel with people I meet. I love having the opportunity to set aside basically everything in my life for a time in order to bring others unto Christ, because that is what is truly important in this life, understanding what we must do to return to live with our Father in Heaven.
