Hi I'm Pettit Shimai

I play the piano. I love my Family. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a student in an Idaho college. I have studied Horticulture and am now studying Web Design. I have played the piano for 19 years and love composing my own music. I also love to sing, though my family sometimes wishes I wouldn't ;). I love drawing, painting, sketching, designing, and almost every other artistic medium. I love to learn and read about history and philosophy. I am currently writing three books, drawing a comic book, and composing songs for each member of my family. I also love puzzles (especially sudoku) and reading the comics in the newspaper every morning while eating breakfast. I love to travel and dream about traveling. I recently got back home from teaching English to kindergarteners in China for a couple months. It was a wonderful experience and taught me so much about the world. One of my more recent goals in life is to backpack from one end of a country to another, and it has to be a midsize country. I am a Sister, an Aunt, a daughter, a grandaughter, a cousin, a friend, a teacher and now a missionary. The third of five children. My parents and siblings have been a great support in my life and mean so much to me. I am grateful for their examples and love. I have been so blessed to have been raised in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Because of my knowledge and testimony of the gospel I know that I can be with my Family through the eternities.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because I know that this is Jesus Christ's true church on the earth today. I know that our Heavenly Father (God) and Jesus Christ still love mankind today and are as active in our lives as they were in the Biblical times and throughout all time. I know that our Savior Jesus Christ came to earth, lived a perfect life, and sacrificed himself so that he could justify the law in Heaven and give us a chance to return to God if we accept him and repent fully of our sins. I have felt the Holy Ghost testify to me of the truthfulness and beautifulness of this gospel. I know that Prophet Thomas S. Monson is called of God to stand as our watch and give us the messages of the Lord specific to our day. I know that he is a humble and obedient man who listens to and acts upon the promptings of the Spirit. I also have a firm knowledge that the Book of Mormon is the word of God and was translated for our day by Joseph Smith. If you read it, and pray to know if it is true, and that this gospel is true, with full intent of acting upon the answer you recieve, then the Lord will send you an answer. I know that this gospel is the ONLY way by which we can receive the greatest light, life, and glory in the eternities. Only through a desire to know our Savior Jesus Christ, study of his words and commandments, and application of those commandments can we return and feel clean in our Heavenly Father, and Jesus Christs presence.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by following the Saviors commandment to love and honor God and 'thy neighbor' (a.k.a. everyone). I try to follow the Saviors example of service by participating in service activities in my neighborhood and supporting those around me with their goals and needs. I go to church each Sunday and partake of the sacrament which reminds me of my Savior Jesus Christ and my baptismal covenants to follow him, and obey the Lords commandments. My baptism and the sacrament are a huge part in my life in helping to live as a better and happier person. Progression is a main principle of the gospel and I know that Baptism has allowed me to progress. I also can testify of the importance of the work that goes on in Temples. I also live my faith by praying morning and night to thank my Heavenly Father and Savior and ask them for things that will make me a better person. I firmly believe in the power of prayer. I have prayed many times with confidence in my Saviors love for me, and have received answers on more than one occasion. Sometimes the answer is not what I wanted it to be, but it is always clear, and helps me further understand what the Lord wants or has in store for me. My faith is in every aspect of my life. Correction, it is a way of life. It is a way of life that brings me long lasting happiness because living obedient to the gospel gives me freedom, brings me closer to family, and most importantly brings me closer to God.

Why do Mormons believe in the Bible?

Pettit Shimai
The Bible contains the word of God. The Bible is referred to several times in the Book of Mormon and the Bible has even a few hints to the Book of Mormon. Both are testiments of the Savior and His divinity, and work here on Earth and in the Heavens. Because of translation errors and how the Bible has been passed down generation through generation there have been changes made, and truths lost. There are some errors in the Bible because of the errors of man, but for the most part it is true and good. The Book of Mormon and modern revelation reveal to us some of the basic truths that were lost in the Bible. Many things that are obscure and hard to understand in the Bible are expounded upon(explained) by Prophets in the Book of Mormon. I invite you to pick up a copy of the Book of Mormon, read it, and pray about its truthfulness. I promise that as you read with true intent to act upon the teachings in the Book of Mormon if they are true, then you will get an answer. I have received that peaceful feeling of the Holy Spirit telling me the Book of Mormon is true and that it supports and sustains the teachings in the Bible. But don't just take my word for it... Read it, pray about it, and feel its power for yourself. Show more Show less
