Hi I'm Cubbie Nelson

I am a California girl. I am a Recreation Therapist for kids. I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am studying Psychology in a Master's program here in Los Angeles...almost done! I love the wild outdoors...hiking, backpacking, ocean everything, biking, exploring, etc. I studied Recreation Therapy in college so I tell people I have a degree in having fun. I work with kids in a hospital specializing in helping children who have mental health needs. I love my job! With the kids, I get to do art, music, yoga, sports, relaxation and anything that might make life more full. I also get to work with adults seeking help to overcome substance dependence, homelessness and psychological challenges.

Why I am a Mormon

Being a Mormon gives me the tools and guidelines for living a full and happy life. Everyday I am increasingly grateful for my belief in Jesus Christ and the knowledge I have of his love for me and that of my Heavenly Father. It gives me peace to know where I came from and where I can go after this life. Jesus Christ is the way to be able to live with our Heavenly Father again. It gives me a lot of peace and confidence to know that I am God's daughter! He loves us all, we are His children! On occasion, I am able to feel an extra portion of love for someone I work with or even a stranger in the community. When this happens, I know it is the love of God that I alone do not have the capacity to possess. I immediately think of heaven and the love pouring down like rain. When I am not carrying my umbrella of worry or sin, I can soak it up freely. That's the real key, living God's commandments allows us to soak up heaven's love AND guidance. The Holy Ghost is the messenger of the guidance and confirms truth in our hearts. We all can access this guidance by remaining open. We can become open by following God's simple commandments, love God, love your neighbor, lay off the substances, forgive, serve, try. When I try a little, God gives a lot...tons actually. My mom explained how God blesses us in this way, "He is just sitting up there with a pencil and pad, dreaming up more ways to bless us." I know that when I turn to Him, He is already standing there, right in my face, like I never missed a beat. A client of mine said, "Jesus loves to give second chances." He gives endless chances. He knows our hearts. He wants us to know Him. He is the source of joy in my life. All good that comes to me flows from his hands. I love it.

How I live my faith

I am a Ward Missionary, Visiting Teacher, and representative for the single adults of my congregation who are over the age of 31. I help with service projects that my congregation does in the community. We invite friends of other faiths to join with us for the projects. I participate in and help organize activities for the single adults in my community and reach out to those of our faith who have not been with us for a while. In particular, I am trying to help get the word out to Gay LDS people in the community, that have not been coming to church and activities, that the Church would be more awesome and complete if they would come back and worship with us.
