Hi I'm Matt Edman

I grew up in Texas. I can play nearly any sport that I know the rules of. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up in the church and my family was relatively active when I was young but I don't remember much. When I was about eleven years old is when I got serious about soccer and started playing on a select team. My soccer practices were on Wednesdays which conflicted with mutual and my soccer games were mostly on Sundays which conflicted with going to church. Before I knew it I had become inactive as well as the rest of my family. Some time around my fifteenth birthday I went to a church youth conference. That youth conference changed my life. I made so many friends in the church and felt so great the entire time. My friends invited me to come to church so I was faced with a choice between church and soccer. This was a hard choice for me because my dad did not want me to quit soccer but I knew it would be for the best. I started going to church again and now I am going on a mission to serve the Lord in Uganda Kampala for two years. I am the youngest son in my family and I am going to be the first son in my family to go on a mission. I am so grateful for the example of my friends and I know that I am now an example to my family and to others around me because of the light of Christ that shines through me. My dad is now active in the church as well as two of my sisters, one being sealed in the temple with her husband. My other sister and two other brothers aren't active but I still have hope. Through Christ, all things can be done.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because of the love and comfort my Savior gives to me. I know that Christ died for our sins and through that we have the atonement. I know that this church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, is the true church. I am so grateful to have this gospel in my life to lift me up. I know that Our Heavenly Father loves me, I know that He is always with me as long as I am worthy. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

Just recently I had been called to be the Young Men Athletic Director in my ward. I thought this calling was perfect for me cause how much I love sports. In this calling I was to coach and teach the young men how to play certain sports. Some time around fall our ward would play volleyball games verse other wards. With my calling I was to teach them the rules and how to play as a team. Through this I felt that they, as well as myself, grew a better friendship with each other. Early the next year around January the basketball games started up. We were younger and not as fast as any of the other teams but through teamwork we continued to push through the had games. After a couple weeks of playing the tournament finally came. We had been placed as the second best team. Our first game came and we lost to a buzzer beater so we fell to the losers bracket but it was double elimination so we were still in it. We won our next two games and got to the semi-finals, where we had to play the team we lost to earlier that day. This time we came out on top with a buzzer beater of our own. We still lost to the undefeated champions but none the less it was a great experience. I really enjoyed coaching and fulfilling my calling to my maximum potential.
