Hi I'm Mariel

I am a Latina with an amazing husband and family who loves to travel, dance, exercise, ride a bike & help others by doing service.

About Me

I grew up in Guatemala and have an identical twin sister. My father died when we were only 10 months old. This was the second time my mother was widowed in just five years I have a half-brother from her first marriage. My paternal grandmother owned a Catholic School; therefore, we were blessed to go to school there. I graduated as a Bilingual Secretary and came to the U.S. to learn English. A few years ago I got an AA Degree with my daughter Michelle. She transferred to UCI and got a Psychology Degree. I transferred to CSULB & was four classes short of getting my BA. I also attended UCLA and got a Certificate of Human Resources Management. I'm currently still a student. I remarried to the most amazing husband 12 years ago in the San Diego Temple, after being a single mom of three for 14 years. We have seven children and 10+2 grandchildren, one child lives in California. My oldest son got baptized at 19 and baptized me five weeks later after an answer to a prayer, which was the most wonderful experience in my life. I now have a relationship with my Father in Heaven and know my family will be together forever. I love to travel, dance, exercise, sing, connect and help people through all types of service. I love being with my husband and he is my best friend. I absolutely love my children and grandchildren. I love to share my knowledge with people. I want to leave a legacy of love and break patterns of criticism and negativity. I have a great life and for that I am very grateful!

Why I am a Mormon

I am Mormon because my prayer was answered. I knew very little and had child-like faith. I still remember when the Missionaries asked me if I would pay Tithing and I said yes, I did not even know what 'tithing' was until I asked my 19-year old son who had just gotten baptized. He said: 'it is 10% of your earnings'. I remember saying: 'What? 10% of my earnings? There is no way, I can hardly make ends meet...' He said,"Mom, if you obey this Law and pay your tithing, He will bless you & He will always take care of you." I believed & started paying. Five years later, I could have become homeless b/c of all the things my home needed, Michael was sent to me. I love that there is no paid 'clergy.' I feel uplifted when I go to church because we have two youth and two adult speakers talking about the same subject. The teachings make me be my best self. I like the Principles of the Gospel: Faith, Repentance, Baptism and the Gift of the Holy Ghost, Eternal Families, Charity, Missionary work, Priesthood Authority and Revelation. I like the people, they are an industrious people who try hard to do good things and be wonderful people. They are kind, sincere, friendly, faithful, moral, thrifty, and thankful people. I like the challenge & having answers to Gospel questions. It requires self-mastery and discipline but most of all a willing heart. There is always more to be done. It is the most satisfying challenge because it is the challenge of a lifetime that requires all that you can give.

How I live my faith

I love, trust and have faith in God. I strive to keep His commandments and follow the Word of Wisdom. I avoid evil, bad movies, bad music, bad language, bad websites, addictions, etc. I give the tithes the Lord asks of me, do my best to help the needy within my means of money and time to serve others. I am a Ward Missionary and I share the Gospel with everyone I come in contact with because I want other people to have this amazing life that I am experiencing here on Earth. I love going to church every Sunday, keep the Sabbath Day Holy and love going to the Temple where I know it is the only place on earth where Satan and his influences are kept away. I love all that I have learned since my Baptism, about my purpose in life and how God’s commandments are the true path to freedom and our true relationship to our Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Christ. I love knowing that families can be together forever. Death no longer seems scary or terminal any more. This assurance I was blessed with when my mom, who passed away in April of 2012, even though she did not receive the blessings of the Gospel in her earthly life, I look forward to her having that opportunity in the Spirit World. I love the service we do for our families that have already passed on to the other side. It's AWESOME!!
