Hi I'm Sorella Mathews

I'm from Rochester, New York. I love sports and music. I'm excited to be a missionary in Rome, Italy and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I am currently a missionary in the Italy Rome Mission. Before, I was a student at Brigham Young University, studying Exercise Science. I grew up in Rochester, New York. I love sports, especially soccer and track. I have a fiercely competitive side, which has motivated me to work hard and better myself. When someone tells me I can't do something, I give it my all to prove them wrong and accomplish that very thing they told me that I can't do. I also love music; I play the piano and viola. I used to dread going to piano lessons as a kid, but now I thoroughly enjoy playing! When I started orchestra as a kid, I originally wanted to play the violin because I wanted to be like my big brother. But of course, big brother didn't want little sister to copy him like she had by doing the same sports as he did. So my mom made me pick a different string instrument and I couldn't be happier playing the viola. I have been in the cast of the Hill Cumorah Pageant for the past 5 years with my family and I have loved every minute of it! It has really helped me to discover what kind of person I am and has helped me to go out of my comfort zone to meet new people and try new things that I previously would never have tried (like dancing). I love smiling and laughing and just being happy. I'm a sucker for corny jokes and puns. Even the smallest, silliest thing can make me laugh and smile. I have often been asked by people why I smile so much. And I always respond, "What's not to smile about?"

Why I am a Mormon

Although I have had the Church as part of my life growing up, I have not simply blindly believed every word that my parents and Church leaders have told me. I read the Book of Mormon for myself and prayed to God to know if the things I had read and had been taught in church were true. And I received an answer! This is the true Church! I came to know that for myself. Having the gospel as part of my life has brought me so much joy and countless blessings. I have become a better, happier person as I have lived the way God would have me live. Don't get me wrong. My life hasn't been perfect and wonderful all the time, even when I'm following the commandments of God. I've had my share of trials and challenges, but I have never faced them alone. God has always been there for me, supporting me. I know that when I pray for help and guidance, He will always hear and answer me. If God loved me enough to send His Son to atone for my sins to allow me to return and live with Him again, the least I can do is love Him and follow Him.

How I live my faith

Living my faith and living my life are one in the same. I don't just live my faith by going to church on Sunday and reading my scriptures and saying my prayers every day. My faith is so much more than that. It is the foundation of my actions, words, and thoughts. Every aspect of how I live my life is influenced by my faith. You could say that I live my life by living my faith. I live my faith by smiling and being friendly to other people, being an honest person, and genuinely caring for and serving other people. I live my faith by obeying God's commandments, putting forth my best effort in all of my activities, and sticking to my morals and standards. And soon, I will be living my faith by devoting all of my time and energy to serving the Lord and His children in Italy for 18 months as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints!
