Hi I'm Katie Smedley

I am from Las Vegas, Nevada. I love to snowboard with friends, eat popsicles, and laugh. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I was attending BYU-Idaho, but as of now with the new missionary ages, I'm going on a mission! New Jersey Morristown, Spanish speaking, and couldn't be more excited! I was a sports girl in high school and still enjoy being active in my life. I swam competitively all four years of high school, played lacrosse, and ran cross country. I tore my ACL in my first season of lacrosse and sadly never got back into it, I loved the sport! Something I enjoy most is being around people. I love to laugh with people, I love to serve them, I love to get to know about them; their goals and stories of their lives.

Why I am a Mormon

Why would I not be Mormon! I was born into the Church so I've never really known what my life could be like without it, though a time in my life I did rebel against it and believed that I didn't need it. I decided my life was just fine without prayer and scripture study, and that Heavenly Father didn't truly know me, didn't answer prayers, and I knew more than He did what was best for myself, so I lived my life doing whatever I believed to be right for me, and cut my Savior out. Then I was shown a much better way of life in college. One of my roommates was head strong in the gospel, she loved it. She found peace and joy in her life because she lived it. Watching and being around her made me want what she had; direction, love, compassion, happiness, self-worth. So I started reading my scriptures again, started to pray, and with the support of professors, friends, and family, I was on my way to building my own testimony and building my relationship with Heavenly Father and my Savior. I took me awhile, but it was worth it. Now I can say that I have that direction, love, compassion, and happiness in my life. I could never have gotten to this point in my life without turning to my Savior. He has helped shape me into the person I am today. I find true happiness and peace when I read my scriptures, I find comfort and guidance when I pray to my Heavenly Father. Because I have chosen to follow Him, I have been blessed beyond measure, and the blessings keep coming. I know who I am, I know I am capable of greater things because of my Savior. I know the atonement is real and provides positive change. I know lasting happiness is only found in this Gospel. I know the Book of Mormon is true, a power can be felt when you read it. I know I have a Heavenly Father who knows and loves me and is there for me, in reality. I know the Savior lives and loves me as well and desires for me to follow Him and will help me to do so. This is my testimony, in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen.

How I live my faith

Every morning and night I make a point to read my scriptures and say my prayers, though I am not perfect at this and times I don't read or pray, but, I find my days go a lot smoother when I do these things and when I do not do them, I find I am quicker to judge, anger, assume, and be impatient. I attend church every Sunday. This is so important. It re-fuels my spirit and gives me an opportunity to renew my covenants with my Heavenly Father, something that I need in my life. I attend church activities during the week, and connect and find support and friendship in my peers. I attend meetings to plan activities for the ward members. I try to look for ways to help others daily. Whether its a kind word to a friend, holding a door for some one at the store, or making cookies for someone who needs a pick-me-up, somehow I try to effect someones life for the better.
