Hi I'm Jared

I grew up in the tropical paradise known as Idaho. I love life. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a middle child. I have one older brother and one younger sister, and they are my best friends. I spend my time: liking to think I can play the ukulele, doing whatever other people want to do, hunting, fishing, reading, and gaming- In that order. When I was 13 my parents divorced, which has been hard for me but because of the great examples in my life I think I've turned out alright. My senior year in high school I made a few really good friends who were planning on entering the US Air Force right after graduation and I wanted to go with them, but I knew that if I did it would postpone my mission for the church or keep me from serving. They left while I was still making up my mind, and in the meantime my brother returned from serving a mission in California. Seeing the incredible change that it had made in his life inspired me. In those short two years that he was gone he had turned into a man, and I wanted the same thing to happen to me. I now serve in the Philadelphia Pennsylvania Mission and I love every second of it.

Why I am a Mormon

I was baptized into the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints when I was eight years old because my parents were members of the church and I trusted them. I am still a member of that church today for a lot of reasons, but one experience I had back in October 2012 always stands out to me. I don't think my experience was unique because many people have had similar ones, but it was something very special to me personally. I was struggling. I was fighting an internal battle and I needed a little more guidance than I then had. As a result, I turned to my Heavenly Father and simply asked for help. He gave it to me. An amazing feeling of love and peace overcame me, and I knew at that instant exactly what I needed to do. Whenever I doubt myself or the decisions I have made, I think back on that experience and I remember that God loves me, and that He will tell me what I need to do if I am humble enough to ask. I have received many answers to my prayers since then, and the love that I feel from time to time reminds me that I am on the right path.

How I live my faith

I am currently serving my God as a full-time missionary. I live my faith by doing my best to follow the subtle promptings of the Holy Ghost, by asking myself often what the Savior would want me to do, by being a good example to my friends, and by trying to help people when they are struggling.

What is a “testimony” that Mormons speak of?

Jared
A testimony is a belief or knowledge that has been gained through one's personal experiences. Testimonies are typically gained by receiving answers to life's great questions through prayer. These answers come through the quiet promptings of the Holy Ghost. This is how I have come to know that God is real and that He loves me. It is how I know that the Book of Mormon is true. It is why I live the teachings of ancient and modern apostles and prophets, and it is why and how I have hope in the Savior, Jesus Christ. Show more Show less
