Hi I'm Michael

I was born and raised in Ogden Utah. I'm a band nerd. I'm a Mormon

About Me

Throughout high school I did a lot of extracurricular activities that involve music. I participated in the Marching and Symphonic band, Fiddle group, Theatre, Future Business Leaders of America, Model United Nations, JROTC, and a community choir. I am a college student now and my major is undeclared, though I think I'm going to end up being a math or accounting major. I attend the university of my home town full-time but I also participate in the Marching band of the university in the next city over. At the moment I am working towards my associates degree and hope that I will find a subject that appeals to my interests.

Why I am a Mormon

I have been a member of this church for my entire life. I firmly believe that is the true church of god and that it was restored to the earth through the prophet Joseph Smith. I believe that my family will be together forever and that one day I will return to live with Heavenly Father. I believe that He loves everyone and that he sent his son to atone for the sins of the world. I believe that Jesus suffered the pains of hell for me so that I won't have to. I believe that I have been given the agency to choose right from wrong and to accept Jesus' atonement. I believe that this agency is so important to our father in heaven that he would allow us to choose wrong with the hope that we would choose right. I believe that God is merciful and will accept repentance for any transgression. I know this because I have felt his love and forgiveness for mistakes I have made. I have felt his spirit touch my heart when I was in some of the deepest moments of despair. He has sent people into my life who have picked me up when I have fallen and, at times, have given me the feeling of self-worth when I saw myself as nothing. I believe that God loves me and I believe that He loves you. I believe that He still calls prophets to this earth to reveal His will to His children.

How I live my faith

I participate in my community by offering my time to United Way as a volunteer for some of their campaigns and events. I have also been called, by my church, to be an 11-year old scout leader for the youth of my area. As part of this responsibility I help the youth attain the ultimate goal of scouting which is to be the best citizen they can be. We participate in many service projects around the neighborhood and provide leadership and fellowship opportunities to the youth that otherwise might not occur.

How are the activities of the Mormon missionaries funded?

Michael
Mormons wishing to serve a mission pay their own way for the most part. They contribute to a general missionary fund which helps equalize the cost of all missions. This allows young men and women who grew up in more humble circumstances to have the same opportunity to serve as their peers. If they still cannot afford the mission, the deficit is supplemented by contributions from family and friends or tithing. To serve a mission is to sacrifice a lot for the sake of love and no person should or is barred from service because of inability to pay. Show more Show less

How is the Book of Mormon different from the Bible? How did Joseph Smith obtain the “golden plates” or Book of Mormon?

Michael
The Book of Mormon and Bible differ in two major ways. (1) the Book of Mormon is a record of Gods dealings with the ancient inhabitants of the Americas when the Bible is Godds dealings with the people in Jerusalem and the rest of the old world. (2) The Bible has been through numerous translations and though it is still the word of God and we cherish it dearly, there are some truths that have been lost. The Book of Mormon was translated once from Reformed Egyptian to English, and then from English to all other subsequent languages. This leaves little room for clerical error to unintentionally change meanings of scripture. Joseph Smith recieved the golden plates when he reached the maturity necessary to handle them. He saw God the Father and Jesus Christ in a vision and was told that he would restore the original church of Jesus Christ to the earth. He recieved angelic instruction for 4 years after this vision and was then led to the plates by an angel named Moroni. Moroni was the last man to handle the plates in ancient America and was the man who buried them in the ground where Joseph found them. Show more Show less
