Hi I'm Mikelle

I love a good adventure. I have dreams of traveling the world. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a university student, working to put myself through school. I love the satisfaction that comes from learning something new and mastering new skills. I love being at school and being a part of a young single adult ward. Some of my favorite things are music, dancing, and playing card games with my room mates or my family. I am also very good at baking and eating desserts! I am part of a family of all sisters and I love spending time with them. My favorite memories with my family are singing around the piano with my sisters and family game nights. I love trying new things that challenge me. I'm definitely not a fitness nut but I do enjoy running. Right now however, I'm putting all that on hold and serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born and raised in an LDS family. I also grew up in a community that was largely LDS. I always took my lifestyle and my standards for granted when I was young. My testimony of the Gospel definitely came by degrees and it took me a very long time to really know that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is God's true church on the earth. My testimony came piece by piece over a long time. Sincere daily prayer and scripture study are what really cemented my testimony that God is our Heavenly Father and He does know and love me as an individual. I also know that Jesus Christ knows me personally and has given me strength when I have needed it most in my life. Even though I have experienced hard times and sadness, I have been able to grow and become a stronger person because of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, rather than sinking in despair. My life is by no means perfect but I know that no matter what comes my way, I can rely on the Lord and I'll be ok no matter what happens.

How I live my faith

Right now I am living my faith by serving as a missionary for 18 months. As a missionary, I get to teach people about the gospel that I love full time! It's really difficult at times but when I can see the gospel of Jesus Christ changing someone's heart, all the difficult times fade in my memory. There are no words to describe how amazing it is to see people realize for the first time that they are a child of God and that our Heavenly Father knows each of us individually. I think that is such an incredible concept; we have a Heavenly Father who knows us perfectly, inside and out. He knows each of our struggles, successes, thoughts, desires, etc. and He still loves us perfectly! How do I live my faith? I think a lot of times, it's overwhelming to think of all the things that make me imperfect. Instead of focusing on flaws, I try to focus on the small things I can change day to day. Attitude is everything so even when things in my life feel difficult, I try to look at the big picture and remain hopeful and optimistic for the future...still working on it but hey, that's what life is about. Basically, I am living my faith through trial and error. I can't change anything about the past, but I do have the power to learn from my mistakes and use that knowledge to make better choices in the future.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

The Atonement of Jesus Christ is a central part of our religion. None of us are perfect. We all make mistakes, big and small, every single day. Heavenly Father knew we would sometimes make wrong choices and that those choices would separate us from Him spiritually, that is why He sent Jesus Christ to atone, or pay the price, for our sins. Jesus Christ lived a life free from any sin. Because Christ lived a sinless life, He is the only person who could offer Himself as a sacrifice for our sins. From His suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane to His final words on the cross, the Savior paid the price for our sins. Because of this, He understands us perfectly and is willing to forgive us when we show that we are willing to repent, or have a change of heart and action. Jesus Christ is our advocate with our Father in Heaven. This is why the Atonement of Jesus Christ was necessary and why it is so important. We don't have to be defined by past mistakes, because of the Atonement, we can move forward and become better each day. Show more Show less
