Hi I'm Schaffor

I'm a husband and father of three. I love to mountain bike and surf. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am a very happily married man and father to three beautiful, energetic and oftimes high maintenance children. Our days consist of work, family time, carpooling, soccer practice, violin-cello-piano, homework, etc. We enjoy the many outdoor activities San Diego has to offer including surfing, mountain biking, hiking, geocaching, and just about anything else the kids come up with. Professionally, I am a Vice President and Branch Manager at a large investment firm. Out of the approximately 250 advisors I work with, I am the the only member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, aka "Mormons".

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because 20 years ago, and after a life of pursuing personal pleasure over God's plan of happiness, I hit rock bottom. I was a ship without a rudder with no wind to fill my sails. I had no sense of purpose and every personal defeat (school, work, relationships) was devastating. After one such defeat, I began praying to God for meaning and personal strength. I had not prayed in 5+ years! It was almost 2 months before I received the warm and reassuring answer in my heart and mind that I am a son of God, that He loves me and is is perfectly aware of who I am and that He has a purpose and plan for me in life. As I turned my attention to God and contnued praying, I was led back into activity in the Mormon church. I began reading in the Book of Mormon again and attending church. My heart was changed and I was filled with desires to serve others and do good. I received purpose and personal inspiration pertaining to the next steps in my life. The principles and teachings found in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints are true. They have provided me with clear and unmistakeable direction in my life. They have led me to a life of personal fulfillment and happiness. When the trials and hardships of life strike (as they always will), my faith and conviction in the teachings of Jesus Christ as found in the Book of Mormon and at church each Sunday provide the power to move forward with faith and optimism.

How I live my faith

For me, my belief and faith in the Savior require daily practice. Just like anything else in life, to fully develop in any area of life requires commitment and persistent, daily effort. I believe first and foremost, I must strenghten my relationship with my Heavenly Father and his son, Jesus Christ. To do this I pray each day, both morning and night. I also strive to read scriptures daily. This invites the Spirit of the Lord into my life. When one has the spirit with them, all areas of their life are improved. We treat our families, neighbors, and colleagues with deeper respect and tolerance. We make better decisions and speak more kindly to others. When we have the spirit of Christ, we see others as they really are, as children of our Heavenly Father. Working with the youth of the church, I have a great opportunity to make a postive impact early in their lives. The youth are up against so much temptation and conflicting messages today. They are taught that physical appearance, financial position, and possessions are of greater importance than taking care of their bodies and minds and tending to their family relationships. Sharing with them a knowledge that they are literally spiritual sons and daughters of a loving Heavenly Father and that He knows and cares about each of them personally is a very empowering principle.
