Hi I'm Ryan

I was born in Hong Kong, and grew up in Australia. I like to play the piano. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm the second child out of three. I am studying science at university. I love all types of learning, but especially about how the laws of nature and how it affects our everyday lives. My main hobby is playing the piano, in all types of genres. I like playing computer games. I enjoy listening to music. I enjoy spending time with family and friends, mostly just mucking around and having a good laugh.

Why I am a Mormon

I'm a Mormon because I love being one. As a child growing up in the Church, it becomes a part of you. However, you can't rely on trusting your parents' testimonies forever. You reach a point where you have to decide whether it's really true, or whether you've only attended church because it's a tradition. Actually you are strongly encouraged as a youth to decide for yourself. In Alma (one of the books in the Book of Mormon), chapter 32 it reads: "Now, if ye give place, that a seed may be planted in your heart, behold, if it be a true seed, or a good seed, if ye do not cast it out by your unbelief... it will begin to swell within your breasts; and when you feel these swelling motions, ye will begin to say within yourselves - It must needs be that this is a good seed... for it beginneth to enlarge my soul; yea, it beginneth to enlighten my understanding, yea, it beginneth to be delicious to me." Here Alma is comparing faith to a seed. Alma talks about how faith is not a perfect knowledge, but you must put it to the test. I did put the Church to the test - I read the Book of Mormon, and kept the commandments. This is how I know the church is Christ's true church. I gave the teachings a place it my heart, and then it started to grow within me. The Holy Ghost told to me in my heart that the teachings I've known all my life are true. Acting on God's teachings made me so happy, a feeling that you feel you can't contain. Any time I doubt, I can turn to this scripture and be reminded how gaining faith is a gradual process, and that I should never give in.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by trying to become more like Christ each day. I think being Mormon is not really just about following a list of do's and dont's; it's really about being the best person you can be. It's about being kinder to others, having patience, not judging others, loving and serving others. I believe everything that we learn and do at church and throughout the week is to help us be happy; to be examples of Christ. I think an integral part of how I live my faith is being true to yourself 24/7, in front of everyone or by yourself. Church worship and personal worship are very strongly linked. You as an individual talk to God through prayer and scripture study, which then changes you into a better person. As a better person you are better equipped to help and uplift others at church on Sunday, which then strengthens all the individuals of the congregation. I go to church because I want to show God that I love Him. At church you feel refreshed, ready to take on the week ahead.
