Hi I'm Baxter

I grew up in both Utah and Maryland. I'm a missionary in Long Beach, California, and...I'm a MORMON!!!

About Me

I am currently on a 2 year mission to Long Beach, California and I am loving it! I love to serve other people and to spread the Gospel. I also love to play football, play the piano, read, snowboard, wake board, camp, hike, and cycle. So basically, I LOVE the outdoors!

Why I am a Mormon

I was born into a Mormon family and was raised in the faith. However, I only became converted to the gospel a couple of years ago; I was always active in the Church but had never really developed my own testimony. I was out at college and I had some very difficult roommates. I was forced to turn to God to get through the semester and that led to me gaining my own testimony. I really started praying day and night, reading my scriptures everyday, reading Jesus the Christ, and thinking about Christ throughout the day. I noticed that as I did this, my heart truly started to turn and I found joy in the Gospel and in the knowledge of Christ. I gained a testimony of the Atonement, Joseph Smith, Jesus Christ, the Book of Mormon, Thomas Monson, and much much more. I am so glad that I am a member of this Church and I know that it is true.

How I live my faith

I am very active in my ward and community through church callings and the scouting program. At least once a month I visit assigned families in the ward to see how they are doing and ask if they need help with anything. I've seen that as I complete this service, I become very close with the people I visit and truly enjoy this calling. Through scouts, I do multiple service projects and learn how to better serve the community and the people in it. I am also going on a church mission for two years to serve and to preach the gospel of this Church. I cannot wait for this and know that even though it will be a lot of work, the experience will be worth it and enjoyable.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

Baxter
The Atonement of Jesus Christ is the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made while in the Garden of Gethsemane and on the Cross. He suffered for every single person's sins: those that have lived, are living, and those that will live. He suffered so much that he bled through every pore in his body and would have died if not for being the Son of God. We cannot comprehend how our Savior felt and cannot ever repay him that debt. When Christ suffered for our sins, he took upon himself the role of a mediator, God the Father is the creditor and we are the debtors. God has said that no unclean thing may enter heaven and that means that if we commit only one sin, we cannot enter the Kingdom of God. When Christ suffered for our sins, he paid our debt to God the Father but he still expects us to "pay" him back. In order for us to reap the benefits of the Atonement, we must be willing to repent of our sins and to try our very hardest to live our lives the very best way that we can. God will not command us to do anything that is impossible and He knows that we can return to live with him again, never give up hope! Show more Show less
