Hi I'm Blake

I am an engineering student, skier, runner, adventurer, sports enthusiast, and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I grew up all over the US, everywhere from Florida to California, but my family has now settled and I have begun to study Mechanical Engineering in college. I enjoy snowboarding, skiing, boating, shooting, hiking, camping, swimming, fishing, rock climbing, basically anything outdoors, I'll be there. School has always been a major part of my life and I take my academics seriously. I'm also a big sports fan, I ran track and cross country all through high school and I still have my passion to run. During football season, you can find me watching College Football every saturday. I almost always have my headphones in, listening to all kinds of music, I've played instruments almost my whole life like piano and percussion, I even tested the waters in marching band for a while. I am now serving as a missionary of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and love everything to do with mission work.

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon by choice, not by force. I grew up in the LDS church, but my parents always told us that it was our decision if we wanted to live the standards that the church has taught or not. For a long time, it was hard. I had to really work at gaining my own testimony of this church. During the hard times, I started to notice how unhappy I was, I was quick to anger, didn't get along with my parents, and I always seemed to think the world was against me. I know it doesn't work like this for everyone, but one day I woke up and just felt like I was going nowhere and needed to change. I started with the little things, reading the scriptures just a little each day and praying to my Heavenly Father no matter how tired I was in the mornings or nights. Little by little, my scripture study seemed to become more meaningful and my prayers more personal, I wasn't doing it on purpose, it just started happening. It took a while, but I was noticing that I got along better with my family, and the things that used to bug me, just seemed so insignificant, I even noticed that I was doing better in school and sports. For the first time in a long time, I felt joy and peace. It was then, that I learned that this is what this gospel brings, true happiness, comfort, a feeling of love, and so much more. I know that this church is true, and because of this testimony that I have gained, I have chosen to take the amazing opportunity to go on an LDS mission and teach this truth to the people in Ecuador, and I could not be more excited, being a Mormon blesses my life everyday.

How I live my faith

Each day I try to find opportunities to serve those around me, I am on a compassionate service board and we do things like bake meals for those who have maybe recently had a surgery or a loss, shovel driveways for those who are unable and other simple things like that. I don't have to go out of my way to live my faith, through just making good choices and being a good example, I can show that I believe and have faith in this gospel.
