Hi I'm Zack Murphy

I was born and raised in Utah. I am a pilot. I am a Mormon.

About Me

Growing up I always loved sports. My favorite sport is soccer, I played on a competitive soccer team for many years. In order to train and to stay in shape I joined a swim team which my older brother had been on for a few years. In the beginning I hated my time in the pool. But I made so many great friends and learned to love the sport. I swam for my high school swim team for the three years that I was in school. I had to stop playing on my own soccer team when I was 16 because of medical reasons, so to stay involved with the sport I started to help coach my younger brothers soccer team. During my sophomore year of high school I tore my labrum in my shoulder, because of this I wasn't able to continue to swim after I graduated. So in order to fill my life with something now that both of my sports were gone I enrolled in a pilot course. I love to fly and have received my private and instrument pilot licenses. I love to go on vacation with my family. One of my favorite places to go is Lake Powell, my family enjoys tubing and playing in the water.

Why I am a Mormon

I was born with bilateral club feet. This has had a profound influence on my life. Because of this condition I had to go through many surgeries and procedures just to be able to walk. Growing up I have developed a love for sports, soccer in particular. The combinations of those two things brought me a lot of pain. Playing soccer on a competitive soccer team means a lot of running, and after a lot of running I could barely walk. The pain eventually became to much. I was always grumpy because I always hurt. At this point I made the hardest decision of my life, I was going to quit my soccer team. Soccer had been my life and I could not give it up completely so I decided to coach my younger brothers team. A few months into this my Mom found a new medical treatment that had the potential to eliminate the pain from my feet. We tried it and it worked. I was now pain free. All of these things have taught me so much. I learned that I could do very hard things, I learned that I had the ability to pass my knowledge on to others and that I enjoyed it, but the most important thing that I learned was to rely on my Savior. He helped me through all of my trials, which alone I never could have managed. He also helped me to graduate high school a year early in order to pursue one of my loves, aviation. For the 10 months following my graduation from high school I was enrolled in pilot school. I received my private and instrument pilot licenses, all with the guidance and help from my Savior. I am a Mormon because I have received many witness that this is Christ's church. I know that Christ's church has been restored in its fullness and that is the Church of Jesus Christ of Later Day Saints. And I am honored to be a part of His church.

How I live my faith

Every sunday I love to go and spend my day at church, I find that I allows me to recover and give more focus to other things during the week. In addition to my sunday meetings I participated in youth activities every tuesday night until I graduated from high school. When I turned 14 I was given the home teaching assignment to visit two families from my ward. Over the next 4 years I grew to love these families. I loved to serve them and go and visit once a month. I also grew to love the other boys my age in my ward. We went on many scouting camps together and grew close brothers in the Gospel. They have been a source of inspiration and have helped to build my testimony in so many ways!
