Hi I'm Casey

I'm a college student. I love basketball. I'm a Mormon

About Me

I recently graduated from high school, where I spent time alpine skiing, wake boarding, reading, and hanging out with my friends and family. I also play piano and saxophone, and although I am quite rusty, music has always been a huge part of my life. Among all this, basketball was one of the main passions of my high school career. Although I had never played before my freshman year, I spent huge amounts of time in the gym trying to learn the game and remedy my general lack of coordination, strength, and overall athleticism. Because of my hard work and my natural height advantage, I eventually played as a starter for my high school varsity team. After I graduated, I moved to college, where I began working towards a major in computer science. After a fun-filled freshman year, I took a couple years off from school to serve as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Why I am a Mormon

Those who were critical of my religion in high school often said that I hadn't learned to think for myself, and I was merely blindly following my parents through the devotion I showed to the LDS Church. Now, as I have moved away from home, I believe I have shown how false that is. The truth is that although I grew up in the Church, my faith comes from long hours of study, prayer, and experience within the church. The Savior once said, "by their fruits ye shall know them" (Matt. 7:20). In this church I have seen more good fruits than in any other place, whether they be incredible examples of goodness among the members, true doctrine which is logically pleasing to the mind, or personal confirmation from the Holy Ghost that these things are true. In the end, I do not doubt that I must follow Christ's commandment to follow him. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the path that we must all follow.

How I live my faith

After inquiring after Peter's love, the Savior commanded him to "feed my sheep." This commandment holds true for all of us. Whether preaching the gospel to those around me, helping someone with homework, or merely taking the time to be a friend, I strive to fulfill my obligation in feeding the Savior's sheep. It is for this reason that I spent significant time at college making visits, teaching lessons in church, and helping my floor in the dorms be an uplifting place to be. It is also the reason that I am serving as an LDS missionary. As I serve, I hope and pray that I will be able to bring the joy I have felt in the church to those I serve.
