Why I am a Mormon

I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of latter-day Saints. I was raised a Mormon and baptized at age eight. While I received many witnesses of the spirit as to the truthfulness of the gospel as a child, my own testimony came as a teenager. Following the prophetic invitation after reading the Book of Mormon- Another testament of Jesus Christ, I prayed with a sincere heart, with real intent, having faith in Christ to know that it was true. And it is! The spirit testified this to me. Through the same process of prayer and the witness of the holy ghost I know that: Joseph Smith saw God the Father and his son, Jesus Christ and restored the church in this dispensation; the priesthood was restored to the earth; the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day saints is the kingdom of God here on the earth; through the atonement of Jesus Christ and by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel we can return as families to live with our heavenly parents. The gospel of Jesus Christ means everything to me. It defines who I am and outlines what I may become. Living gospel principles sets me free and brings me joy and happiness. My family relationships are eternal due to ordinances received in a holy temple, as long as I am faithful to my covenants and endure to the end.

How I live my faith

I live my religion by serving others. For many years I coached a youth basketball team in the city of Placentia. I have been active in scouting, including serving as a merit badge counselor. For over 20 years I have been involved in counseling many youth and families while serving as a Seminary teacher, Bishop and President over our local congregations. As a youth leader I organized many youth conferences, including one week trips to BYU for 150 teenagers. I sing in our local church choir and even directed a youth choir. I enjoy visiting and praying with those involved in a hospital stay. Most important, I live my faith by trying to be a good husband, father and grandfather. This includes listening to and spending time with my children, cherishing my dear wife, and of course playing with the grandchildren. Love seems to be the key element. My wife and I will be serving a two year mission for the church in Leeds, England beginning July 4, 2016.
