Hi I'm Alyssa

I love learning languages, I'm a sister, and I'm a mormon!

About Me

Hi! I live in British Columbia, Canada, and although I love travelling this is still my favourite place in the world. I love my family; I have two great parents, an older brother and 3 cute younger sisters. Some of my favourite things are learning languages, playing card games, eating sushi, rain, group hugs with my sisters, going for walks, skirts that poof out when you spin, Christmas, and spending time with people I love. I'm 19 years old and recently finished my third semester of university. I don't have any specific educational or career goals yet, but so far I've enjoyed studying Spanish, history, geography, psychology, etc. When I was in high school I did a 3 month exchange program in Germany, which I loved, and once I graduated I spent 4 months in Ecuador volunteering in orphanages, which I loved even more. I love being happy.

Why I am a Mormon

I grew up in this church because my parents were both mormon. As a child, I loved going to church and learning about the gospel through my parents. I loved reading the Book of Mormon with my family and having family home evening, and I knew that this gospel made me happy. As I've grown up I've continued to read the scriptures by myself and pray daily, and this has helped me in my life. I've felt my Heavenly Father tell me that he loves me and this has been one of my greatest sources of comfort because I know that it's true and that He's always watching out for me. The more I read the Book of Mormon and pray the more I understand how important it is to me that I stay faithful and learn and grow in the church. Jesus Christ and His atonement are so important to me and I am so glad that I get to learn of Him by reading the scriptures. I know that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ live and that they love me so much and are guiding my life. I know that the Book of Mormon is true and that it will help us be happy. I know that Thomas S. Monson is a true prophet and the receives revelation from God for how to lead the church. I am a mormon because of the good feelings that I get from living the gospel and because of my testimony that it's true.

How I live my faith

I live my faith by doing the basic things like going to church every Sunday, going to cubs on Thursday evenings where I'm an assistant leader, reading my scriptures and praying. I follow the commandments that the Lord has set because I know they're important and are given to us for a reason. I try to follow the example that the Saviour set during his life on earth by serving, loving others, praying, studying the scriptures and being as perfect and worthy as I can be. I always wish I was better but I am grateful for the opportunity that I have to improve myself every day. Another big way that I'm choosing to live my faith is by serving a full-time mission for the Church. I will be serving in the Vanuatu Port Vila Mission in New Caledonia, where I will be teaching the gospel in French. I am looking forward to the experience because I know that it is what Heavenly Father wants me to be doing. I felt the spirit telling me that this is the right thing for me to do and I am excited to go serve and find out why the Lord needs me in New Caledonia.
