Hi I'm Matthew

I am a music education/composition major at Northern Kentucky University. I am a runner, I am a 'nerd,' and I am a Mormon.

About Me

I love learning and learning how to DO. I love running, basketball, swimming, frisbee, reading, nature, rock climbing, canoeing, white water rafting, and basically everything else I have time to do. I am a college student, a singer, a swing dancer. Most importantly, I love my Father in Heaven and his son Jesus Christ. And I love that they love me. Oh... and by the way: I'm a Mormon!

Why I am a Mormon

I was raised a member of the church, but over the last year an a half or so, I have done some real searching to know if this church was true, or just a creation of wishful thinking. I questioned whether I believed in God at all. As I prayed to know if I had a Father in Heaven who loved me, I felt the comforting presence of the Holy Ghost, bearing my Heavenly Father's love to me. It is a remarkable, undeniable experience that has been repeated time and time again, each time reaffirming that I DO have a Father in Heaven, and that he Loves me. After I came to, as King Benjamin says in Mosiah Chapter 4, Verse 9 "Believe in God; believe that he is, and that he created all things, both in Heaven and in earth," then I began to question what truth he would have me to believe. So I sought for guidance through prayer and study. I asked him to lead me to truth, and I sought it in diverse places. I have visited Mosques, Masses, meetings, bible studies, classes, church services, and I found love for God, and the love of God in so many places. However, as I began to search in doctrines and dogma's, as I read the Book of Mormon, I felt the Lords Spirit testify of the truths contained therein. I could not deny witness from the Lord that this was a true book. As I listened to to the words of the prophets today, I felt the spirit witness that he was the spokesman for the Lord. Lastly, I as I changed my life to live the Commandments of the Lord as laid out by modern day revelation through is prophets, I found the joy and freedom promised to those who obey the will of the lord. I have had a witness from God that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is His Church. I have submitted to his guidance and trusted in his hand. I invite you to do the same. I invite you to "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart... In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths." (Proverbs 3:5-6) Read the Book of Mormon and ask God if it is true. He will answer you.

How I live my faith

I attend a congregation full of young adults ages 18 - 30 who are all unmarried. Apart from our wonderful leaders, we are all in a stage of life where we need the support of friends who all have similar good intentions as ourselves. Together we make friendships and ties to support one another in our life journeys. We learn together, we play together and we support each other. In this group, I have certain individuals who a friend and I both visit and check up on regularly to support them through life. We meet with each person monthly, and provide whatever assistance we can to them throughout the month. This is a common practice throughout the entire church called Home Teaching and Visiting Teaching. I also have two friends who are assigned to do the same for me. I also enjoy singing with our church choir and often planning events or teaching lessons as is asked of me. I guess what I really am saying is that, in this the Lords Church, we are a community of believers gathered together to support and to teach one another. The Lord Jesus Christ is at the head of this community, and gives each and every one of us charge to care for our fellow brothers and sisters in the gospel. Together we progress toward becoming the Men and Women that God would have us to be.

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Put yourself in their shoes for one second, and it will seem much clearer: You know the truth. You know the happiness it brings to you. You have come to know that Heavenly Father loves you, and that every person on earth is his child. You know that these are all your spirit brothers and sisters. You have the truth, which provides comfort, guidance, security and happiness. You see people around you who don't have that knowledge, and who struggle through the drudgery of life without the fullness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ to lift them up, and you will want to share what you know with them. So you answer the call of the lord to become a full time missionary, sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ with your brothers and sisters, because you want them each to have the joy you have found. When you find the happiness that the gospel of Jesus Christ brings, you just can't help but share it. Show more Show less
