Hi I'm Alana

I grew up in Southern Alberta, Canada. I am working toward becoming an teacher. I am a Mormon :)

About Me

I have been in University for four years now. I went to Brigham Young University for 2 years, then transferred to Lethbridge and I have been there for 2 years now. I am working towards getting a degree in Education and hope to become an Elementary Teacher or a High School Biology Teacher. I love being around students and helping them learn and grow. I have been married for just over a year and a half and I love it. It One of my hobbies is reading. I LOVE to read! Everything from a good mystery or suspense to romance I will read it :) I also really enjoy cooking. I love trying new techniques and flavours, and I just love food. I feel like the kitchen is a place where precious memories are made. Family is really important to me, because friends can come and go but family is always there for me. I always enjoy spending time with them no matter the activity, whether it be watching a movie, playing games, or going hiking and spending time in the beautiful outdoors.

Why I am a Mormon

I love being a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! It has helped me so much throughout my life. I was raised as a member of the church, however I did not always have a testimony of my own. It took a lot of time and effort to gain a strong testimony for myself. There was a point in my life when I was trying to make a few big decisions. It took a lot of prayer, scripture reading, pondering, and church attendance. However, doing all of that was not enough. I needed to have faith to make it complete. It was hard, and took me awhile to have the pure unwavering faith that I needed. I had fears and doubts that were interfering. I learned though that faith and fear cannot co-exist. To have the faith I needed for personal inspiration, I had to abandon my fears and trust in the Lord. I know how important faith is and I am thankful for it. Being a member of this church has also taught me about the importance of having an eternal perspective. When things happen and problems arise I used to freak out, but now I look at them and ask myself if it will matter or affect me in a year. If it doesn’t, then I know it is not worth getting upset about, and I am able to stay calm. This knowledge has helped me make good decisions throughout my life. I am also thankful, and that there is life beyond death. I am thankful for Heavenly Father’s plan that families can be together forever. It has helped me get through tough times when families or friends passed on. It is still sad, but not near as devastating as it would be without the church. I love being a member of this church. I am a Mormon :)

How I live my faith

I have worked with the children in the church often. I had the opportunity to teach them lessons about being kind to each other, about the Savior, and about Heavenly Fathers beautiful creations. I love being around them and feel that I learned a lot from them and the sweet spirits that they are. I also participate in Visiting Teaching which is when I go around and visit other ladies from the ward. I am given a few ladies to visit. I go so I can build relationships with these women that I may not have gotten to know otherwise. It is a way for us to learn from each other, build friendships, and help strengthen each other's testimonies. We are there to help and serve each other.
