Hi I'm Melinda

I'm on a mission in East Sao Paulo, Brazil. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I'm currently taking a break from Brigham Young University (BYU) in Provo, Utah to serve a mission in the Brazil, Sao Paulo East Mission. I love to play the piano and flute. I also golf, play volleyball and soccer. I LOVE learning about other cultures and meeting new people. History is a passion of mine. I'm currently learning Portuguese and I'm loving it!

Why I am a Mormon

I am a Mormon because the knowledge that the church brings makes my life so much easier and better. Life is too hard sometimes and the trials we have aren't meant to be had alone. The Church provides a family and a community and a knowledge to support and help us through these hard times. Our Father in Heaven loves us and wants us to return to Him and we cannot do that alone.

How I live my faith

I go to church every Sunday for 3 whole hours. Sometimes it seems like an eternity but I love it. I am now out preaching for our church in Brazil with a companion. If you see us say hello!

What is the Word of Wisdom that Mormons talk about?

Melinda
The Word of Wisdom is a guideline that members of the Church of Jesus Christ follow. We avoid tobacco, alcohol, coffee and tea and illegal drugs. We don't consume these things because they are addictive and they may impare our judgment or thoughts. We want to always have a clear mind so we can do the right things always. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Melinda
Yes, us members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints are indeed Christians. It says it right in the Church's name. All of our teachings center around Jesus Christ, His life and His teachings. The Book of Mormon is an additional testiment to Christ's life. Jesus Christ is our Savior, Redeemer, Brother and Friend. We love Him and He loves us dearly. If you're definition of Christian is a follower of Jesus Christ than you can definitely count Mormons as Christians. Show more Show less

Why do Mormon missionaries proselyte?

Melinda
Missionaries like me go all over the world going two by two to spread a message of joy and happiness. We proselyte in pairs because there is strength in numbers. Sharing the Gospel or the Plan of Happiness which the Savior, Jesus Christ has given us, gives us the opportunity to help others find enjoy this plan as well. Our mission, as missionaries, is to help others come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the Gift of the Holy Ghost and enduring to the end. How can we increase our faith in Jesus Christ?

Melinda
We can increase our faith in Jesus Christ by keeping His commandments which He has given us. I have found, especially recently, that the more commandments I keep, the happier I am and I gain more faith because of the truthfulness the commandment has taught me. Someone once said, "Obedience to commandments brings blessings. But EXACT obedience brings miracles." I have found this to be especially true while on my mission. It is VERY HARD to be EXACTLY obedient but I have noticed my blessings: my faith has increased, learning Portuguese isn't as strenuous and my family is blessed so much more than usual.
