Hi I'm Jacob Ives

I love to play sports. I have lived all over the world. I love people. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I have been raised a military brat. My father is in the United States Air Force. Because of this I have had to move every three years or so since I have been born. I am 18 years old and I just graduated high school in South Korea. I am now living and going to school in Italy where my family is stationed. I am preparing myself to go on a mission for the LDS church. I love to talk to and get to know people. Having had the opportunity to travel and see all different types of people has really created a sincere interest in other people's lives and backgrounds. I love sports and played many all through high school. I enjoyed tennis, golf, basketball, football, and soccer while I was in high school. My father is a doctor. I want to become a doctor also. Family is everything to me. I want to work hard in my life to become the best human being that I can be.

Why I am a Mormon

Looking at my life one would say that I am a Mormon because I was born into a Mormon family. For a long time that was true. I was raised going to church every sunday, learning the commandments God has given his children, and all the teaching of the LDS religion. Though my family being the reason for my activity in the church may have been true once, that is not why I am a Mormon now. I am a Mormon because I know that the teachings of this church are of God and they are made accessible to men because God loves us and wants us to be as happy as possible. I know that the Book of Mormon is the word of God. I know that Joseph Smith was God's instrument in restoring the complete and true gospel of Christ on the earth. Simply, I know this church is true. How I came to know these things is very important. I have prayed about the things that I have been learning since I was a small child to know of assurity that they are true. The Spirit of God has made it known to me that the things I have learned and read in the scriptures are the word of God and that I need to base my life on the teachings and example of Jesus Christ. I cannot deny what I know to be true. I am a Mormon because I know it is the Right thing to do.

How I live my faith

In my mind the biggest way that I live my faith is through the time I spend developing my own spirituality. The time I spend praying and reading my scriptures defines the way my faith effects my life. When I have spent an appropriate time on my own spiritual development everything thing else that is church related becomes that much simpler. Since I am 18 years old, as far as what church class I attend on sundays, I am right in the middle. I can qualify for both the youth and adult programs. This in the middle stage has presented an intersting opportunity for me. I have been able to help many different ways. Some days I will be asked to teach the youth classes. Some days I help in the nursury with the very young children. It is amazing to me that wherever I am, as long as i'm in church I can feel the Spirit and love of Jesus Christ. I also have the opportunity to be a hometeacher. Hometeaching is when brotheren from the church visit other members and teach them gospel principles and serve them in any way that they can. I live my faith by keeping the commandments that God has given to men. If I make a mistake I repent and sincerly try to do better. By doing these things I live my faith.
