Hi I'm Kieren

I'm an Aussie, love doing nail art, future Occupational Therapist and I'm a Mormon!

About Me

I just got home from serving as a full time missionary for the church in the England London South Mission. I was studying Occupational Therapy at university back home in Australia and hope to be able to help people working in that in the future. I used to work part time at my local supermarket and run a small business too. I love nail art, I used to change what was on my nails daily. I think it drove my family mad with the smell... but it is what I do. I come from a family of two kids, there is me and my younger sister. My sister has Downs Syndrome, but that is just a label people give her, I wouldn't have her any other way! She is the best example of love!

Why I am a Mormon

I have always been a Mormon, I was bought up in a Mormon family and was encouraged when I was younger to know for myself whether it is true or not. There came a time in the middle of high school though when I needed to know for myself why in the world I was living and doing the things I do. I am a Mormon because I know it is true. I have studied and prayed to know if it is true, and I know that Joseph Smith was a modern day prophet who restored the gospel on earth. I know that Thomas S. Monson is a living prophet, chosen by God, who receives revelation to guide us. I know that the Book of Mormon is true. I know that I can be with my family forever, and because I love my family, I want to be with them forever. I am a Mormon because it simply makes me happy!

How I live my faith

I live my faith in many different ways. Probably the biggest way I have lived my faith so far is by choosing to serve a full time mission for 18 months in the England London South Mission. It is a scary thing to do when you leave behind your family, friends, education and work... to go meet, talk to and serve a whole new bunch of people! It is kind of scary sometimes, but worth it. At home, the best way I live my faith is by my example. My friends and family know my values and how I live, which helps them respect me for how I have chosen to live my life. I have also lived my faith by volunteering in my local church, I served as a Faith in God leader where I helped teach 8-12 year old girls about faith and then as a Y.S.A. Representative where I helped the 18-30 year olds know what events were happening for them and trying to find ways to serve them. Serving people is a great way of letting them know you love them!

What is being a Mormon like?

Kieren
Well, I love being a Mormon, it isn't always easy, but I wouldn't be one if I didn't like it. I'm a Mormon because I know who I am, I know what my purpose here on earth is, I know where I am going after this life and I because I know I can be with my family forever! We still life typical lives, we go to school, we go to work, we hang out with friends, we are just like normal people. There are some things we don't do, like drink alcohol or coffee, smoke or take illegal drugs and this is because we have the Word of Wisdom, which helps us protect our bodies and improve our health. We don't go out to work, shop or play on Sunday. Just like in the commandments, Sunday is a special day where we go to church and spend time with our family. We also try to help people as much as possible, by trying to serve people and help out in any way we can. Show more Show less

Can a husband and wife be together forever? Do Mormons believe that families will live together in heaven?

Kieren
Yes :D this is one of my favourite things about the church! I know that in our church, we use the Priesthood power to perform a special blessing called a "sealing". This is when a man and a woman are seal together for time and eternity. A family can be sealed together so that in heaven we can be together too. I am grateful to know I can be with my family forever. It's a pretty special thing to know, I can be with the people who are most important to me, and the people I love for eternity. Why is family so important to Mormons?

Kieren
Families are important to Mormon's because it is one of the best places to learn and grow! God loved us so he gave us a family to live in :) In families we are able to learn about all sorts of things. I have learned to cook from my mum, I have learned how to maintain a car from my dad and I have learned to love from my sister. Families is one of the best places to learn things that can help us now and in the future. Families are also important because we believe that we can live and be with them for eternity! That we aren't just here as families now, but after this time on earth as well. At the end of the day, we are all part of God's family too. Show more Show less

Are Mormons Christians?

Kieren
Simply yes, 'Mormons' are Christian's. Mormon is a nickname given to our church because of the Book of Mormon which is another book of scripture from God that we study from. Our church is actually called 'The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints' because we believe that this is Jesus Christ's church not mans. Show more Show less
