Hi I'm John Winfield

I'm a collegiate athlete. I love running. My family is awesome. I'm a perspective missionary. I'm a Mormon.

About Me

I am currently a missionary and will be for the next two years. Before I came on a mission, I ran a season of Cross Country for a community college. I've always been big into running and it is my goal to one day make it on scholarship to a division 1 NCAA college. I also enjoy playing the piano, airsofting, hiking, hanging out with my family, and camping.

Why I am a Mormon

First off, both of my parents are Mormon so it is what I grew up with. At the same time, when College came and then also the oppurtunity to serve a mission came staying active was entirely up to me. I am Mormon because I've read The Book of Mormon and through prayer have found it to be true. Since I know that The Book of Mormon is true I also know that Jesus Christ really is the Savior of the world, Joseph Smith really was called to be a prophet of God, and that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints really is the same church that Christ organized while he was on the earth. I'm Mormon because I have found that I have found the truth.

How I live my faith

Right now I'm serving a mission. I eat, drink, sleep missionary work. My purpose is to invite others to come unto Christ. Some ways that I do that are: community service, teaching people lessons, and sharing what I know to be true with people.

What is the Atonement of Jesus Christ? Why was it necessary for Jesus Christ to sacrifice His life?

John Winfield
The first principle of the Gospel is Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and his Atonement. Christ's Atonement is comprised of three different events and helps us overcome physical and spiritual death. The three events making up the Atonement are: Christ's suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane, His death on the cross, and lastly, his resurrection. In order to save us from physical death Christ had to conquer it, he did this when he was resurrected. In order to save us from spiritual death (separation from God) he took upon himself the pains, sicknesses, and sins of the world. Since no unclean thing can enter God's presence and since Christ was the only perfect man to ever live he had to pay the price of our sins. Because of what Christ did we can now live again both physically and spiritually. It is through this act that we can become like our Father in Heaven and be with our families forever.
